#5 to Utah for...

Post#1 » by margodydek » Tue Jun 19, 2012 7:53 pm

Jazz fan wondering what it would take to pry #5 out of your hands. I also hear that you guys may be shopping Tyreke. I'm hesitant to come here and throw out some lowball offer, so I was wanting to see what you think would be enough for the #5, and if you can think of a deal that includes Tyreke as well - then feel free to get creative.

Some things you should probably know beforehand. We currently have 3 big exprirings in Jefferson, Harris, and Millsap, we also have GS's first rounder next year (top 7 protected), and a $10.9MM trade exception. And of everyone on our team, I think only Favors is untouchable at the moment.

Outside of Favors, Millsap and the Warriors pick is the only thing I could really consider.

Would you do Millsap + the Warriors pick for #5?

No, we'll just wait and sign him as a free agent if we really want him, he doesn't have such a pull with his contract to get a #5 pick.

Sadly I think we're bad trade partners considering the untouchables from either side (Mainly Favors who we'd obviously want, and you won't want to part ways with).

I dont see any of your expiring players worth much to the Kings future. Outside of Favors and kanter I dont see anyone worth it for the Kings. Even Kanter I dont have real interest for. Harris would not get along with Cousins. The expiring's probably dont resign. The warrior's pick has risk. Overall just not good trading partners.

Another Jazz fan here: First off I totally agree with Sacramento fans and fans in general that high lottery picks are gold... and shouldn't be traded. Well unless you are Boston and you aren't going anywhere and all that is left at #5 is Jeff Green, then yes you take a 30+ year old SG to take your team to the next level!

With that said, Millsap was a near all star this year and is the perfect compliment to cousins. He is young, and would be a 18/9 player for you to help solidify your team... The GSW pick is another lottery pick to add to the two you will pick next year.

Many GM's would take this if the player they want in the draft is gone... I just think at some point you need to get some real veteran leadership on your team and to do it at a position of need, with a player of Millsaps youth, character, and contract demands would be huge for you. Your young guys really need to start playing meaningful minutes and that only starts when you play in a meaningful playoff race.

Why? When a rookie makes a bad pass or takes a bad shot and it costs you a game it doesn't matter if you are 20 games back from the playoffs, but if you are in contention it makes all the difference. Young players like our young Jazz learned this year that if you don't make that good screen, or that second pass...you can lose the one game that prevents you from making the playoffs. Hence, they learn to make the right plays in the right situations and they grow and mature as players. Winning breeds winning!

I love your Kings team but I believe that if the Kings don't mature and start winning soon you will face a very disgruntled Cousins. Cousins is a stud and he is trying to make the Olympics this year and when he is going up against the best in the league to prove he belongs on team USA... he will I bet gain a huge jump in his desire to succeed in this league..... It will be very good for him in one respect... he will probably not make it but he will thirst for success next season. If next year turns out like this year... don't be surprised if as the Kings start losing again next year to see him ask for a trade again. You really need to show that you can start to compete now.... Just my read of his temperment and your teams expected trajectory next year without a move for a solid young veteran. I just don't believe another project lottery pick is what you need this year.

Too many years in a losing environment starts to breed selfish players who play for their own stats and their next contracts... I love Sacramento and wish they were back to winning ways.... I fear for your team that these great young players will leave you in the years to come because they just can't take the losing... at some point you need to win... I fear all the losing has taken a very promising prospect (Tyreke Evans) has become a chucker because in a losing environment all you start to worry about is your own stats and your own play... He seems like he has regressed from his rookie season...

I think this is a solid trade for your team... but alas I totally get not wanting to get rid of a high lotto pick.

If your #1 player is not there: Get a future lottery pick and a stud PF and email me next year when you love the passion your team is playing with.

We might've consider it we knew we had stability with a long term contract - as it stands with him expiring next summer, this is just a terrible thing for us to do.

If we really want him we can wait another year.

Just a little FYI... he can be extended this summer past this year. Forgive me but knowing Paul like we do we know he is the type to take security as soon as he can get it. He will want something fair $7-$9M per for 3-4 years should do it and he will sign... trust me. Then you have him locked up for years.

Paul doesn't want to wait behind all of next years expirings and he doesn't want to risk injury when money is on the table to secure his future... He will sign... no doubt.

Its the super stars that pull the hostage scenarios for franchises. Not our Paul.
