I apologize if this has been asked, and i'm sure it has been, but we memphis fans have been kicking around the idea of...
Rudy Gay and 25
for
Thornton and 5
Would kings fans be interested in that?
I know that is a lot of salary to take back, it works with adding chuck hayes as well

I'd have to consider something like it. Not sure if I'd pull the trigger though.

No, this trade is selling us short BIG TIME.
By this trade, even if we agree to value Gay and the #5 the same (and there's no reason why the Kings should do that as we need to get more in such deal IE dumping salary/pick/sweetener considering his overpaid long contract) - then you're saying Thornton = #25, which is way off base, so we're losing on both fronts.
#5 > Gay
Thornton > #25
Anyways in general, I don't think Gay is a good fit for us as another high volume, high usage offensive player.. I would much rather trade for guys like Iggy or Deng in terms of fit.

Yeah. Good points, I suppose. I'll lean towards a no.

That's the gayest trade idea, ever.

Not sure I'd even trade Thornton for Gay straight across.

Gay is a better player and a better fit than Thornton. Gay could play with Tyreke and help make up for the shooting deficiencies. The salary is killer, so we'd HAVE to be sending out some salary, either Thornton or Salmons. Thornton for Gay or #5+Salmons for Gay.

Now that is a little homer-ish
Talent wise there is no comparison Gay is the superior talent. I guess the only way I could see it your way is Gay's contract.

I actually like Gay, too. He's a great player. But I'd rather keep the 5th, and Thornton.

Contract it is. Putting Gays physical gifts aside for a moment, which is fair considering both play different positions, both players values are based on production potential. Gay will get you 18-20 ppg for 17 million a year. Thornton will get you 18-20 ppg for 7 million a year. Homer-ish? Nah, I don't think so. It's more likely the Kings find a good player to stick at SF than they can find a replacement for Thornton right now. Keep Thornton and go after a shooter/defender at SF, Fields or Batum.

#5 + Salmons for Gay has some legs to it. No way you get Thornton.
