Can kings make the playoffs next year?

Cavs fan here. Do you guys think you are good to make it into the playoffs in 2013 with teams like Dallas probably falling off. I think there is a strong chance because you've manage to stock pile talent from the draft over the past few years, and if TRob is as good as advertised I think you guys could be a playoff team for the next Decade (assuming you keep your core intact). What is the general opinion here?

Probably not. Dallas will only fall off so much. If Houston doesn't make some drastic changes, we'll probably pass them up, and I think we can also definitely pass Phoenix up, assuming Gordon is matched. Maybe Utah will look to even out their roster and trade one of Jefferson/Millsap, but it's hard to see them getting much worse. If the Warriors are healthy (pretty big if) they'll be better. Minnesota will probably be better, and now New Orleans just might be as well.
So I'm not about to get my hopes up.

Think we are 1 more decent draft pick, and a SF away from the 8th seed competitively. I think an aiming high goal would be 35 wins, most likely we will not win this many but a decent goal. We need Salmons to step up, Jimmer to become a decent role player, TRob to be a stud, and continued improvement from Cuz.
Think we can count on the others to be business as usual types, Smart with a full pre season and summer league should help.
I would say without further changes in the roster, 30 wins atm.

Not with this current team. We have yet to make any changes. We're in need of a better sf, which we don't have. So no playoffs unless we make a blockbuster deal.

The Maloofs won't get an SF and Keith Smart will probably play anti-playoff lineups all season, so I'ma say no.

Absolutely not. We are, without question, the worst team in the West. I wouldn't be surprised if the only team we finish with a better record than in the entire league next year is Charlotte. The situation here is really abysmal. All of our competition is getting better through trades and free agency, and we're standing pat due to having the cheapest, brokest owners in professional sports.
Don't get me wrong. Cousins is a phenomenal talent. Marcus Thornton is an assassin. Thomas Robinson is the second best rookie from this class according to most. But other than that, we have half of our payroll invested in bums like Chuck Hayes, John Salmons, Travis Outlaw, and Francisco Garcia. Now we're re-signing mediocre Jason Thompson, likely shooting ourselves in the foot with another stupid contract. Evans and Fredette have bust written all over them. Thomas is a career back up.
Objectively, we only have a better roster than Charlotte, end of story.

Woah there dude dont be so positive........... I'd like to remind you that we will have probably the best rebounding 4/5 in the league. You dont have to be amazing to land 8th seed. A line up of Dcuz, TRob, w/e SF, Tyreke, and IT is not the worst in west. NO is horrible, Dallas will be horrible unless they decide to sign a lot of decent players. Portland isnt that good anymore. Denver is mediocre. Suns are not good. GSW are extremely overrated. If we some how trade for a decent SF or get like Wilson Chandler we might be competitive. Signing JT for a 6-7m year contract is a great signing. Evans in no way is a bust, he just needs to grow more as a player. Jimmer is very bad ill agree with u there. But is Smart decides to never play Hayes, and Outlaw I think we will be alright..

Whatever team EJ doesn't wind up on[Phoenix/NO] will have a worse record than Sac
Portland will have a worse record
Golden State will if Curry/Bogut continue with their injury issues
If Minny don't get Batum and Rubio get's injured/doesn't come back strong they have a worse record

Sorry cavs fan, you are not getting the kings pick next year... This team will still be inconsistent like last years team... Not a chance this team goes to the playoffs with this current roster...

I don't think we will be as bad as you think. We should be one of the best rebounding teams around and that could be huge. All our bigs are above average rebounders. And ya it sucks half our payroll is tied up in bums but really Garcia and Outlaw don't play much anyways so they wont make a difference and Salmons and Hayes can't possibly play any worse than last year. And no way is Tyreke a bust, he's not Wade but he isn't a bust either. Give Smart an actual offseason and training camp to work with the team and we should be better than last year.

NO was a decent team towards the end of the season last year. Now they have AD, Anderson, Rivers, and possibly a healthy Gordon. Kings will definitely be the worst team. I have to assume Houston will make some moves.

They could always shock because they do have talent, but unless Smart has some really great ideas I think not.

Unless either (or both) Cousins & Evans make huge leaps into their development, I don't see the Kings sniffing playoffs next year imo.

No way. Even if Robinson turns out we don't have a point guard. i don't see Evans coming back after this season. We have too many bad contracts & the cheapest owners in the NBA.

Thomas/Jimmer
Evans/Thorton
Williams/Salmons
Robinson/Thompson
Cousins/Hayes
Why is that team so bad? Obviously need some vets & experience so you guys mature quick & grow up, but the talent is there.
I don't think you'll make the playoffs next year but I do thing you guys are looking very good in 2-3 years & getting a couple vets will really do wonders for this team. I'm excited to this how you guys plan out in the future.

Plenty of talent, but it's the same flawed look that caused havoc last year. Not enough shots to go around, not enough role players, not enough shooting, not enough cohesive style. We all saw it last year. If Thornton comes off the bench, this team is a joke. They have to go back to Evans/Thornton and find out if at least that works. Too close to contract time, Evans is what he is and if this team goes with a playmaking SF and a SG that can't spread the floor and mimics PG duties I will ->

two things need to happen IF the Kings make the playoffs. First, the IQ on this team improves dramatically. Second, a few teams in the West see their star players hit with the injury bug early in the season

I think these will be the teams making the playoffs.
Thunder
Lakers
T-wolves
Clippers
Nuggets
Spurs
Grizzly
Mavs
IF the Kings improve their shooting + defense (ESPECIALLY in transition), they MIGHT have the slightest hair of a chance to knock out the Mavs? But even that's a stretch.

We might not see Evans/Thornton as the starting backcourt:
As I mentioned earlier, the Kings are looking to acquire a small forward, and are going to look at Tyreke Evans as a two-guard. They just don't want him becoming the primary ballhander/facilitator again. (Nor do I!)
I smell an IT/Evans backcourt next season.
