The Positivity Thread
There's a lot of negativity on this board right now, so I figured we could have a thread like this full of only positive thoughts.
Nothing negative here (*cough* deNIEd*). Use all of the other threads for that. In this thread, we look only on the bright side of the many aspects of being a Kings fan. Any negative posts will be removed, and if they're repeatedly made, the posters will be warned for hijacking.
So I'll get started.
1) Tyreke appears to be putting in genuine work this summer on his jumper. He has a new shooting coach and this is a contract year. He knows that if he wants that big pay day, he's going to have to come in with a drastically improved jumper next year, and so unlike previous years, I expect him to have that extra motivation to actually come in and have that ready. Along with that, he has that new shooting coach, and we started to see progress on this at the end of last season.
Two sub points to note here.
A) If he does come in with a jumper, then that is MASSIVE. It is absolutely huge to the progress of this team. He takes multiple steps up as a player and becomes a basically unstoppable scorer. Once again, he may just look like a real franchise cornerstone--somebody who could eventually be a main guy on a championship team.
B) Even though it would be a contract year motivating him, this isn't the kind of thing that would go away once a new deal is signed. This isn't about in-game effort. This is about learning to shoot again. If he develops good habits on his jumper and it works, then it should be good for the duration of his career.
2) Having as many scorers as we have isn't entirely a bad thing. Right now, we've got weapons upon weapons, upon weapons. If somebody has an off night, somebody else can step right in and produce. We'll never be out of guys to go to for points. If we can find a set offensive system and a way to get everybody involved, we may end up being extremely hard to stop.
3) Just a reminder guys: Players most often take a big leap in their third year, and Demarcus Cousins is a **** beast. He really does have the talent to be the first option a championship team, and he made real progress last year, and looks to have made progress playing for the select team. If he takes another step up next year and improves his finishing--even if just to the top of being average--then we will be a much, much better team.
I have other things, but I'll let some other folks step in here.

Re: The Positivity Thread

J/K before we have the new trend of smiley facedom dominating this thread.
There are positives, this team is one of those most stacked offensively talented teams I've ever seen. If they commit to being something they've never shown as individuals and are able to do it, this team will be a scary offensive team.
Another positive if it doesn't work and it fails than I'm almost positive Petrie, or someone will have had enough and will start the process of doing the opposite of what's been done.

+ Improved Cousins
+ Improved Tyreke
+ Improved Thornton
+ Added Thomas Robinson
+ Added Aaron Brooks (bolsters bench, strong potential based off of 09-10 season)
+ Added James Johnson (great wing defender and shot blocker)
= Better team in 2012. Bottom line my friends. Only question is how great of a leap will they make IMO.

Sometimes you just have to look yourself in the mirror and say....Tyreke Evans.
That just happened.

Re: The Positivity Thread
I don't get all the negativity. While I don't think our off season was perfect or sexy but I am pleased at the moves so far and it hasn't costed us much.
People complain our defense sucks and we have no shot blockers. So we go out and get one of the better wing defenders in the league and a guy who can block shots and people still bitch.
People complain IT isn't starter material, Jimmer sucks, and Reke cannot play the point. So we get a guy that has proved he can play point, is only 27 years old and only played in the nba for 4 years (he can still improve). Plus we sign him to a cheap contract but people still complain. Oh because he is not a distributing pg, who cares. We will run our offense through DMC and Robinson mostly anyways. When has Petrie ever brought in a pg to run our offense. Oh Brooks sucks at defense. He can't be any worse than Bibby. BTW Bibby only averaged over 6 assists one year while with the Kings and we were loaded with shooters. And Bibby a little less than 38% career 3pt shooter, Brooks is 36% not a huge difference.
We end up landing what most people thought was the 2nd best player in the draft.
DMC is a beast!!
I expect Tyreke's jumper to be better.
I also expect Salmons to be better just because he really can't get any worse.
Hayes was hot garbage last year but he did have that shoulder injury, seems like he hurt it at least twice because he tried coming back too soon. Maybe he bad play was due to the injury, god I hope so.

We have the next great big man on our team. That has to account for something.

Tyreke made real strides in his decision making and his shot selection toward the end of last season. Hopefully that translates going into this season. My hope is that Tyreke can develop into a poor man's Westbrook, who becomes much more deadly with a consistent mid-range jumper. I like the acquisitions and I hope TRob is a beast. Also, Cousins is sick. I am happy they have a big man coach.

Re: The Positivity Thread
A lot of negativity on the board. Im a believer in that positive thinking = positive results and vice versa. Honestly a lot of the expectations here are not even realisitic. The reality is no star players want to come here, and that wont change until we start winning.
There is a lot of talent on this team, the frontcourt while lacking a shotblocker is a very big, physical frontline with 4 guys with great motors, skill, size and length. Our backcourt has guys who can flat out score and put the ball in the basketball at an efficient rate. We play to our strengths, think positive and hope these young guys get better and improve their basketball IQ. Im optimistic we can be in the race for one of those bottom playoff seeds but a lot depend on Cousins and Tyreke.

Re: The Positivity Thread
Just keep saying it, makes me feel better.
Seriously though, another positive is we have another former Rocket who knows the kind of system this team should play.
Don't know if it's positive per se, but here's Petrie. I don't know, could be stacking so they can make a move....

Re: The Positivity Thread
Positive things
Starting five is more balance, Brooks can shoot, Johnson is a good defender/defensive rebounding wing, and either Hayes or Robinson at the PF can defend and pass the ball.
Bench is ok too, Thornton can score the ball, Garcia defends well and doesn't complain about minutes, Salmons is a good vet, and eithe Hayes or Robinson can play, Thompson is a quality big.
Negatives things
Fredette isn't going to play unless any season-end injuries happens, Honeycutt won't play either, Thomas is undersized and similar to Brooks, if Tyreke doesn't improve his IQ, selection, passion or motor, this team has no direction, Cousins needs to be tougher too.
I think there's no Fredette trade cause this season is last hope with Evans, if he doesn't step up, he could be traded in the offseason via S&T, and with another **** top5 pick you'd grab another wing and just trust Fredette more in the 13-14 season, take a look at Muhammad, maybe he's coming, or Poythress?

Re: The Positivity Thread
Aaron Brooks won Most Improved Player in 2009-2010 where he was 20 points, 5 assists, 2.5 threes per game at 40%. We needed shooting and there it is.
James Johnson blocked more shots than any King last year and didn't even play starter minutes.
Marcus Thornton is only entering his 4th year in the league. He led our team in scoring for two straight seasons and will only continue to get better.
Demarcus Cousins is hungry. Other teams won't like that, but we will love it. I'm projecting 22-12.
We got the near consensus #2 talent in the draft this year in Thomas Robinson.

Oh yeah. I still cant shoot with Thornton but can kill it with Reke, add in Brooks and TRob. oh yeah.
DMC will make huge strides this year. Will take the next step into the upper echelon of Centers as long as he doesnt kill one of his guards. I still believe in Reke as well.
