Hired by Sacramento in 1994. Won the NBA Executive of the Year Award twice with the Kings, first in 1999 and again in 2001. Since the Kings last reached the playoffs in the 2005-06 season, they have lost more than two-thirds of their games for a cumulative record of 161-325. 6 losing seasons in a row & currently have the worst attendance in the NBA. How does this guy keep his job?

If we're talking turning the Kings around to contender's, we need a 49er type change. They got better with basically a completley new leadership. Jed York Jr took over team, Baalke became GM, and Harbaugh became coach along with his staff. Since that took place they've become a dominant upper echelon team.

I believe that's what the Kings need. However, this kind of stuff should be done in the offseason, changing midseason for a team like us does no good. I see why the Lakers changed head coaches, they are contending. But we're 3-8, changing coaches or GM's mid-season is not going to suddenly throw us into contention. Evaluate this after the season is over, IMO.

I totally agree with you Darkadun, but these stupid Maloofs don't get it or don't care anymore. If the 49ers still had Singletary as coach we would be as bad as the Raiders right now. Everything start from the top.

They won't sell, so it's not that simple. They would have to declare bankruptcy or someone would have to pay them twice what the teams worth to get them to sell.

His biggest mistake was overpaying cwebb and bibby. Those contracts destroyed the kings from 2005-2010.

He has made a lot of mistakes, but overpaying Webber when no else one was even bidding for him probably did lead this team into some of this mess. I wonder if Petrie will follow the Kings to VB?

No one else was bidding on him? What?

But Webber stuck to his decision to test the free agent market, and most observers thought Webber's reticence to talk about his future in Sacramento meant he was determined to play elsewhere. The Kings' season ended with a second-round playoff loss to the Lakers in which Webber played poorly and seemed distant to his teammates.

Earlier this month, 12 to 15 teams made pitches to Webber, but few could meet the criteria necessary to land his services. Webber said he wanted to play in a larger city than Sacramento with a team that had a chance to contend for a title.

The New York Knicks — reportedly Webber's first choice — had neither the cap room nor the players to make a sign-and-trade deal feasible. Other teams, including Orlando, pulled out of the sweepstakes after signing other free agents.

Yes, other teams bid on him, but Petrie outbid the other teams by 40 million. This put the team against the luxury tax and prohibited them from signing other free agents.

He had to outbid the other teams because he would have left us for Indiana or Detroit if he didn't.

Incorrect!

Webber was traded in '05. All they had to do was keep the dude. He expired AFTER the '08 season but Kenny Thomas, Corliss, Skinner didn't. That lasted until 2010. I said the entire time moving the dude was stupid. You were only going to get crap for him and his expiring contract was worth keeping him.

Bibby was traded basically for expirings anyway.

We're still bottom 5 in payroll. Fans get your head out of your hind parts. No team in the bottom 15 of payroll is relevant.

If you look back, all the way back until now, you'll realize that Petries main problem has been holding onto his assets for too long and then either giving them away, watching them walk away, or making marginal moves with them.

Also incorrect. Webber's negotiation wasn't ever about money. He was getting a Max contract here because he was a max talent.

Webber was absolutely a max talent, especially to keep him in Sacramento. Without his knees going out, I'm confident we would have won a ring and he would be a shoo in for the HOF.
