My attempt at an objective take of this matter. Flame/hate/troll away.

Read in its entirety here: What the Business Side of Pro Sports Means for Our Passion and Fandom

The unfortunate reality is that no matter what happens, there is always going to be a fan base that will be alienated. The only way to avoid that as much as possible would be to grant an expansion franchise to Seattle and leave the other teams as-is. But since that is out of the question, we, as fans of the sport of basketball, need to remember that in this day and age, where decisions are almost always profit-driven, one's happiness and gains often come at the expense of another. Therefore, people of Seattle, by all means, enjoy your moment when it comes, but don't forget the sacrifices others will have made for that moment to be possible. At the same time, people of Oklahoma, remember the hope that Seattleites had for their promising core of young players, brimming with potential, before it was all taken away from them. But don't let that thought ruin your moment, for we, as fans of the sport of basketball, also need to understand that it's ultimately a game, played for entertainment, in which no one really gets hurt (except for the athletes' injuries), and make sure not to misdirect our passion for this game in ways that may cause someone to get hurt. People of Sacramento, if it is really your team that becomes the replacement Sonics, I'm really sorry, but keep in mind that no fan is to be blamed for this, and please don't direct your anger at any of them.

Guys, all I'm saying is that while it's good to be passionate about your hometown teams, it's not a life-or-death situation, therefore it's okay for Seattle fans to not worry about other cities (i.e. Sacramento) when they just want their team back, and vice versa.

Did you get the "vice versa" part? Sacramento fans have every right to be upset without concerning themselves with Seattle's situation, just don't point to Seattle residents in your flaming and rants. It's not about hypocrisy or whatever else people are claiming, just pure emotion, because sports is one of the few things on which we can make completely emotional judgements and get away with it.

My emotional judgment is to be annoyed with Seattle fans that choose to be giddy about taking our team. Since it's sports, I'm allowed to do that.

The problem with the logic here is that the Seattle fans are not getting back "their team".

They are trying to steal OUR TEAM.

If they want "their team" back, then go to OKC with their torches and pitchforks and steal the Sonics back!
