What's the King's fans consensus of Isaiah Thomas?

Do you view him as the the starting point guard with Sacramento for the long haul or do you see him best suited as a backup? He seems to have played pretty well this year though even with limited minutes. And it may be in part due to those limited minutes (26 or 27 a game) that he was able to play in 79 games this season despite being a small framed player with an aggressive style. Per 36 minutes he was scoring 18 per game with just shy of six assists with only 2.5 turnovers. not bad for a young player who seems to also have good poise for a point guard. What are the fans thoughts?

Depends on what you have, or what you need. This team is what it is right now, or was last season, chalk full of guys that if they get enough shot attempts they'll look like they were supposed to. If the idea is to keep him as a starter and let him be Cousins' running mate, then they need to make moves to compliment them. My personal opinion is that he should be a backup as scoring punch off the bench a la BoJax back in the day and bring in a defensive PG and put him next to Thornton. Let Reke go and try to make sense of this team while trying to fill that SF spot with somebody who can shoot/defend and has legit size.

I think this team should make a run at Rondo for real this time, maybe Ainge would be interested in a sign and trade with Reke? Maybe that 6/7 pick could entice them?

I would be all for IT at PG if he was open to make plays for others more often. He is a scoring-minded player than a pass-first guard. 7-8 assists per night should be his goal NOT scoring 17-20+ points per night.

That said, IT has really surpass anyone's expectations two years consecutively. This guy has been real good nonetheless.

I wish that he would realize that just because you can score 30 points doesn't mean that that should be your goal. I mean, Chris Paul could score 30 every night if he wanted to but he understands that his team is better when he is facilitating and filling scoring holes when necessary. I don't think that Isaiah understands that yet.

I think that his long term role will be a backup/Nate Robinson type player.

I love this guys heart, but his size will always be a problem. I think he should be our 6th man. He is not a starting pg.

So would you guys consider drafting Trey Burke if he was available for your pick?

SF is probably the biggest hole for this team other than collective team defense.

Hope not with the intention of keeping things as is. Been through this in another thread, Burke would be entirely duplicative in most ways.

Burke would be a huge upgrade from IT. Porter may be the best fit possible despite his iffy jumpshot.

I think you guys need to decide if DMC is gonna be a center or if you guys want a more prototypical center next to him.
Also, figure out whether you want Reke on this team. He's very dynamic but is a ball-dominant player who hasn't really showed if it's worth having the ball in his hands.
Also a SF who is athletic and can play D will do huge wonders for the Kings.

But hopefully Porter gets picked by the Cavs.

I actually think Tyreke played well off the ball this year and he improves every year doing so.

I would not draft Burke over IT.

I don't feel there's a big difference between them to justify that pick, Burke imo is a Jameer Nelson.

I think Isaiah is the biggest dispute between Kings fans, some just love him, and some really hate him mainly due to size.

I personally like him and think whenever he got the reigns to play he was fantastic and improved the team's offense in a drastic fashion, which imo shows he's a great PG.

Defensively he's never gonna be a net positive, but when your entire team has no structure and will to play defense it's hard to blame individuals unless there's really extreme lack of effort which isn't the case with IT.

I think he can be an average defender, and one of the best offensive PGs in the league in a proper healthy system and a real coach.

I do think with confidence given to him and time to grow, he can be our starting PG for the future btw.

I believe he can and will improve his playmaking.

Exactly. Another former Washington guard. If you really want to find good comparisons for players and/or draft picks the fail safe method is to look at what college they went to. Colleges without fail seem to recruit the same type of player year after year. And likewise players seem to be attracted to schools that have a track record of success in getting players like themselves drafted.

Yeah, he reminds me of Nate Robinson without the baggage. Plus 5 years younger too.

I would like to see IT come off the bench a-la Bobby Jackson. He can't defend like Tyreke or Toney Douglas. I am a fan but 20 minutes a game should be what he gets as far as run. I think he and Thornton can really light it up with a second unit.

I agree with that.........

I'll never doubt the little fella, I do not think we have seen his potential yet. I would not be surprised to see him a borderline all star in 5 years.

I will say that I wish we had a solid facilitator, and with IT current talents and abilities coming off the bench for 10-25 min depending on match-ups and flow of game would be preferred.

he gets his numbers a lot of times in irrelevant moments. Like when we lost at home to Miami by 30 IT went for 30 in large because Miami could care less if he shot the ball. I don't mean to diminish his skill set but I would like to see when teams prepare to attack him what happens. I think he's an afterthought in the opposing team's game plans.

I love Isaiah, but I don't think he's the answer for our starting PG. I would keep him as long as possible and have him as the main spark off the bench.
