What do you guys think of having to Josh Smith and Tyreke Evans both signed and traded for each other?

I wouldn't mind it unless if Smith is maxed out. If they are at similar levels in salary decent deal.

Had a cousin run into Reke in NYC and asked what his off season plans were and he's all bout the money. So i think he's planning on bailing, just not sure if there's a team willing to pay him 10+

What young 20-something year old isn't about the money? Of course he wants to get paid, as would anybody. Obviously, Kings are in a good position to see what the market will offer Tyreke and decide if they are willing to match.

Yes. I'd hesitate if it meant maxing Smith out, but I'd go about $10M/yr for him. He's 27 and still has his prime ahead of him, a great rebounder, elite at stealing the ball and blocking shots. I'd love him on the Kings.

I don't believe two-way sign and trades like this can happen.


With that said, I think I'd pass. Not for talent or fit reasons, but I just don't want Smith's personality on this team when we're trying to turn this culture into a positive one. Seems like too much of a potential bad influence on Cuz.

Oh I was just implying that he doesn't care where he goes and really has no care if he leaves the kings as long as he gets paid. Probably isnt the attitude you'd want on your squad as being one of teh cornerstones in your franchise.

I'd have no loyalty considering his circumstances either.

Small market, little available options besides your pay as concerned with endorsements, coach after coach, poor management/owners etc.

Pay more, or I walk. Nothing wrong with that. He still has 10+ years of life in the NBA without injury, future pay days are enough of a motivator.

His tweet "I'm happy this Kings are staying in Sac!! This is where we belong! " sure showed he can't wait to bail. Nobody in the NBA is taking pay cuts, unless it's for a real shot at rings. I'm as bullish on Kings future as anyone, but I don't see them winning within 3 years, so nobody should take lower salary to join Kings.

Hopefully if he's all about the money he's all about it elsewhere. Only if this team can overhaul in other areas, which the real question is if they should anyway or even can mind you, should they overpay for him. I'm sure Tyreke wants to stay and if he's "all about the money" no team can give him more. I just really hope the GM studies the Kings cap and realizes that he needs to keep an open mind even if goal number 1 is to bring back Reke. Just know what Reke you are bringing back. You don't max out 2/3rd options with the way this teams cap is shaping up and with the track record of success, or lack of, of recent seasons.

Well he hasn't exactly been treat like a cornerstone of the franchise the last 2 years so why should be "behave" like one?!

I am sure that if he is given some love by the new ownership group and he sees some success under the new regime, he would be feeling very differently next time he is out of contract.

Bottom line is if you are not being treated well by your current employer and you are not getting the opportunities that you should be, I also think you would be open to leaving your current employer especially if you can get a pretty big contract with them.

If I was Tyreke, I would want to speak to Mike Malone to see how he sees me fitting into this team and how he thinks about using me offensively. If I like what I hear, I will stick around, if not, I am outta here. Sick and tired of getting jerked around! This is an extremely important time in Tyreke's career so he needs to make sure he goes to the right team and if they are willing to give him the most money, it mean they have big plans for him. It's just logic.

You can't go off a tweet when it comes to something like this but the fact that he cares enough to put out the front at least shows something.

With Malone and the ownership group behind Cousins 100 percent, or at least that's how they have come off (could be looking to add trad value) who would be the guys to go? I thought it would be Thornton and Cousins but I know Malone likes Thornton as he's the only guy on the roster that he's worked with in the past. Cousins seems to be the franchise guy moving forward as both Vivek and Malone say they want to give him another shot. Does this leave Thompson and maybe IT(who I'd hate to deal) as the best trade chip we have?

I wouldn't be so sure. Thornton was in Monty's doghouse, but Malone saw first hand that it was because of defense. And for the last couple of years Thornton was one of the major facilitator of opposing teams' penetration that Malone wants to root out so much.

I am thinking that Thornton is the first to go and Cousins, Tyreke and Maybe IT are keepers.

After a great rookie season, Marcus Thornton was riding the bench in New Orleans when Monty Williams and Mike Malone came on board because of his bad defense. The thing is, Thornton has not improved in that area either so I think he will be the one dangled out there as trade bait this off-season in hope of upgrading at SF or getting that defensive big next to Cousins.

I am thinking Malone would want to keep Evans though because he is our best perimeter defender and all-defense first team potential. He also happens to be a pretty good offensive player so I would be shocked if Malone would not want Tyreke back next season!

One thing about Thornton's stint in NO is that he was forced to defend SGs with both Paul and Collison taking PGs. Playing alongside Tyreke allows him to switch to PGs, where he was modestly effective, when he first got in Sacramento. Then Kings drafted Jimmer and IT2, and Thornton on PGs experiment naturally died.
