Ignore the fact that you have Salmons under contract, hypothetical scenario: let's say they're both signing for the vet min, who would you rather have?

Metta. He's hilarious and more what we need right now as a stopgap SF than Salmons in a defensive minded veteran who has won.

Metta. He takes stupid shots sometimes, but he doesn't need them or the ball to be effective.

He actually does, which is why he's been so ineffective for the Lakers in recent years, which is why they're waiving him.

Both used to be good defenders, but are nothing special now. Both need the ball to be effective. Salmons is the better ballhandler and playmaker, Metta is the better rebounder.

I'll take Salmons simply because neither is going to help much at all, but there's a chance Metta could hurt the team.

It's a push for me. World Peace is more entertaining though. If we can have a pass on both option....

They're amnestying him because it saves them a whopping 30 million from the luxury tax, and Lakers fans (and much of the league) seem to disagree that he was ineffective. On offense, I think he knows he's not option 1 anymore having played behind the likes of Kobe, Pau and Dwight. I think he's accepted that more than Salmons has.

Most Lakers fans I've talked to have been saying Metta is terrible now for years.

And as far as needing the ball to score, I don't think it's an issue of thinking they're a first option for either of them. Some players just don't have what they need to be good off the ball scorers. Both of these guys fit that description, and that's why both have scored very inefficiently when put in that situation.

There were stretches where Metta was the best Laker on the floor last season. He's also the one of the few who hasn't complained about having to adapt to a new role almost every season since he's been there. He simply does what he's told and plays hard. Lord knows we could use some of that, especially since we let go of Evans. He's crazy, but not a bad guy and he's learned to control his crazy. That could be something he could help Cousins with. As far as I know, Cousins has refused any mental help, and with Metta being open about his seeking help, perhaps he can convince Cousins that getting professional help isn't a bad thing. Long shot maybe, but it couldn't hurt to try. He's still crafty enough to defend effectively, and could aid Malone in teaching what defense is really about. As far as offense, we're not asking him to score anyway, I think he'd have less of a problem with it than Salmons. I really think Malone is someone Metta would respect. Worst comes to worst, it's just one year and a cheap one at that. That fits our needs at SF as close to perfect as we can get at this point in time in my opinion.

I am not sure I want MWP and DMC anywhere near each other. DMC doesn't have any mental issues whereas MWP has acknowledged his. I think it could work but I see fireworks.... /End Clairvoyance.

They're waiving MWC due to cost concerns. Yes, he's not the same player he once was, but he's not terrible (all the time) either. I don't think John Salmons is remotely as good a defender as he was. Even having lost a step, MWC can probably muscle up against a lot of the PFs in the league.

TBH though, I'd rather not have either on the team.

Right, but it's the Lakers. If he were close to his prime self, or even a decent fit on a team with plenty of scorers, he wouldn't be waived. But he's a waste of money for them right now.

I think they're both still solid defenders at different spots. Not a notable difference there.

Metta hands down - and I specifically want him around DeMarcus.

He's not like he was - and I think he can actually reach out to DeMarcus a lot more, and affect him much better then anyone else given his history, as someone who admitted the problem was with him and fixed it (And if you don't think DeMarcus has control and anger management issues and needs help, then you haven't really been paying attention)

He is the perfect guy to put next to DeMarcus, in my opinion. His current version, that is.

Hilarious! Ron Artest as a role model. Do you really think DMC is going to take a guy the calls himself "Metta World Peace" seriously? The Kings hired the right babysitter for Cousins in Shaq. Keep Ron Ron as far away from that locker room as possible. I'd take Salmons all day in this scenario, but that's not saying much. If it's veteran leadership you want talk Grant Hill out of retirement.
