2014 Draft

It was nice to win back to back games but in all likelihood we're headed back to the lottery and we really need to hit the jackpot this time to turn the corner.

I know most people have Andrew Wiggins rated as the #1 prospect but from what I've seen so far this college season I see Kings order of needs something like this.

1. Jabari Parker 6'8 235 SF Duke
He is the most polished and well rounded prospect. Coach Malone keeps preaching defense but a glaring weakness is putting the ball in the basket. This kid can do this inside and outside. A go to player when you need a bucket, high character and the SF we've been looking for.
2. Julius Randle 6'9 250 PF Kentucky
This guy seems like a beast. Attacks the boards and putting up monster numbers so far. JT and our current PF's really aren't more than role players. Pairing Randle with Cousins the Kings would dominate the boards.
3. Marcus Smart 6'4 220 PG Oklahoma State
His last game he put up 39 points 4 assists 4 rebounds 5 steals 2 blocks, got to the free throw line 16 times and made 5 threes. This is from the PG position and he's 6'4 220. We could let Vasquez walk, keep IT as super 6th man, look to go after Gay at SF. Smart/McLemore/Gay/Landry/Cousins/Thomas looks nice.
4. Andrew Wiggins 6'8 200 SF Kansas
While he has been the most hyped I think a lot of it has to do with his athleticism. Wow we'd be scary athletic with McLemore at SG and Wiggins at SF. I haven't been overly impressed with his offensive game but all the so-called experts all couldn't be wrong about him.

They're saying this is best draft since 2003 when James, Anthony, Bosh, and Wade were drafted. The Kings really need to land a top 4 pick this year to grab one of these potential stars. With one of these guys, some shrewd trades, and good use of cap space we'll be contending by the time the new arena opens!

If we trade for gay like some want to do on this board, expect to be picking in the 9-12 range

My board looks like this:

1. Parker

2. Wiggins

3. Smart

4. Randle

I don't want to see Randle on this team-- I want a more defensive-orientated PF/C paired with cousin. One that knows his role and concentrates on setting solid picks, put backs, hustle plays, block shots...etc.

Parker & Wiggins are my top-2.

I think Parker is going to be the next big time scorer in the NBA. He plays like a combination of Melo and Pierce. Wiggins have so much raw potential, it's scary.

You can't go wrong with either Parker and Wiggins...would also be nice if we magically acquire another 1st rd pick and nab Embid along with Parker or Wiggins.. I guess im not asking much for Christmas...

Honestly, I don't see the Kings ending up in the top 4. Too many teams are going to go full on tank towards the ends this year I bet.

Top 3-4 is good, beyond that its just alright. If this team gets a top 2 pick you may find that star to put next to Cousins but beyond that it's a total crap shoot. Randle is a tough call in that top 4 because he's far from a great needs filler here. In some ways he reminds me of Carl Landry offensively. The one reason I don't he's just a flat out terrible fit is because he looks like he actually plays hard on defense.

If we don't get a top 2 pick but still end up in a 4-6 range, i would consider drafting exum or smart..and take a good look at how embiid develops throughout the season...

I believe Wiggins, Randle, and Parker will go 1-3 (who knows what order)...Given Kings luck in the lotto I'd have to think Smart will be a realistic option for us 4-6. From what GV has shown us I really hope we trade him before the deadline. Smart /IT would be great in this pg driven league.

Wiggins, Parker, Randle, in that order, would be my picks.

Wiggins would give us another super athletic wing player with a well rounded offensive game. The biggest advantage, in my opinion, that Wiggins would give us is his ability to defend multiple positions. Might be able to defend the 1-3, and maybe the 4 if he bulks up a bit.

Parker is very fluid offensively and would definitely help with our lack of scoring ability outside the likes of Cousins and IT. Sometimes we play great defense on one end and can't make a shot on the other. Kid has great work ethic that would help this team too, since he isn't blessed with the same athleticism that Wiggins was.

Randle is a beast! Very aggressive on the boards, and knows how to post up. With him and Cousins crashing the boards, we'd get a ton of second chance points. He'd give us another low post presence when Cousins is riding the bench because of foul trouble. He's not the tallest at 6' 9", but he's strong and can hold his own.

Marcus Smart is another player I think could really help out on defense. He'd be able to guard 1's or 2's, and allow us to play IT at the same time without sacrificing too much defensive efficiency like when we play Vasquez and IT at the same time.

If we fall out of that range, I would look at Gordon, Embiid or Cauley-Stein.

For Sacramento,

Wiggins
Smart
Parker
Exum
Embiid
Randle
Hood
Gordon
Robinson

Smart will be awesome for this team, obviously Wiggins even better.

So far, I've been extremely impressed by both Parker and Smart.

My top 4

1) Parker - (Great scorer/shooter, can take over a game offensively, very versatile, good defense, great BB IQ).

2) Smart - (Good size, strength, physically dominates other guards, uber athletic, good shooter/scorer, great defense).

3) Wiggins - (Doesn't seem to take over offensively; good off ball scorer, Potential is there; Great athleticism; Good defender; Great in transition, both offensively and defensively).

4) Randle - (I'm honesty not too impressed with his post moves, or offensive game at this point. Undersized big. Doubt he's 6-9. Great rebounder. Great athleticism/speed for a big man.)

While I am extremely impressed with Embiid's game/potential, I fear he may be just another Thabeet.

I think Parker is a STAR! Wiggins I'm not so sure.

My current draft wish list:
1. Parker
2. Smart
3. Wiggins
4. Randle

You can always use him as trade bait i.e. the C-Web for Penny trade the Magic did a long time ago.

Who here feels Randle would be a good fit next to Cousins? Why?

Personally, I don't think he is a great fit. Concerns of mine are his jumping or lack-there-of, defensive presence, and height.

I know he can throw it down. But to me it seems he lacks elevation on shots and rebounds.

Randle is good but I don't think he is a good fit here. I rather draft a SF or a PG.

It's becoming more evident that neither Vasquez or Thomas are starter quality at PG. They are better suited as a backup PG.

Choosing between PG and SF prospects in this draft will be tough. These two positions are in dire need.

If you had a choice of any pick, which would you say fits this team the most? This question can be for anyone, too. I haven't had the chance to watch much college basketball so I'm not sure who I'd take.

I have to say SF because we simply blow chunks at that position. Yes, DWill is currently the starting SF but I see him more of a more advanced PF.

At the PG position, at the very least, we have SOME production from Isaiah & Vasquez (& eventually McCallum). Besides, the best PG prospects in this draft are score-first type of guards. Smart reminds me a lot of DWade. I mean, he is a capable passer (probably will tap out to a Iggy-level passer) but his mentality is score first and pass second. I would like to get most of my points from anyone except at PG. Same with Harrison..too much over dribbling in my taste. The most interesting PG prospect is Exum. He is still pretty raw but he is the most unselfish out of those guys above. Kid has size and I think he can be scary good.

To me, Jabari Parker is a future scoring champion candidate in his prime. He reminds me of both Melo and Pierce a lot. I like him a lot for this team. He would be Cousins' Robin.
