Kings/Nets: Thornton for Terry, Evans

Post#1 » by Komodo » Wed Feb 19, 2014 7:22 pm

http://www.cbssports.com/nba/eye-on-bas ... r-thornton

The Nets would be bolstering the scoring off their bench by replacing Terry with Thornton, and possibly setting themselves up to absorb another contract, probably a big man, either by using their Disabled Player Exception or some other trade chip. Losing the rebounding of Evans would be tough for the Nets but they can find a replacement on the trade market.

The Kings would be freeing up more space for Ben McLemore to play heavier minutes and saving themselves a little over $1 million through the 2014-15 season if they end up keeping Terry and Evans.

Some may feel like this is a lateral move and it probably is, but this is the main reason why I'm happy about getting rid of Thornton. This is the 'value' were getting out of this trade imo

Only 11:40 here most of us have work or school, and it was heavily talked about in our official trade thread.

pro's

Save about 1.5 million next season
May be able to buy out Terry, saving even more
McLemore playing time increase
breaks larger contract into two pieces

cons

more pf clutter
if we finish with an extra win or two, hurting us in the lottery.

I'd of preferred to do this in the off season, but as long as we do not win any more games, then we salvaged some table scraps for cap space.

Biggest impact this trade will have on our team is McLemore is now the starter and there is no going back.

Dollar wise we save $1M. Every dollar counts, I guess.

Evans and Terry should benefit Acy and McLemore in practice.

There isn't really much to say but...okay!

I think it's an even trade.

If it's shooting the Nets were looking for, they found their man. It'll be interesting to see how Thornton impacts the Nets playoff run.

Reggie Evans and Quincy Acy.... twinsies!

Good list. Personally I don't think it will give us more wins this year. As bad as we all wanted Thornton gone at this minute he is still more refined then Ben IMO

And expect less chances to win every night as a result. Honestly, this team still isn't structured to give McLemore a large chunk of offense. I really hope this management and coaching staff is smarter than that. This team was noticeably better when they put Thornton in there at starting SG not because he was a better fit but because he didn't make rookie mistakes. In tight games rookie mistakes can kill you.

If they can somehow get that PG they want and send IT packing it makes a lot more sense but after reading Viveks comments about the league being more "offensively oriented" or whatever, I'm a little nervous some of the moves that removed the only real fit pieces they had were done partially to continue on the path of stupidity the previous regime was on. I really hope that isn't the case.

OK guys, time to start making some sense now.

Not too against the deal, we've seen what Acy has brought to the team, Evans is that and probably more. Acy and Evans is a pretty interesting PF rotation to put next to Cuz IMO. Not as much defense as you'd want but Evans is a solid defender and is dirty as hell. Just hope he was brought here to play. Now it's time to move JT, they almost have to now. C'mon Cavs, JT for Jack!

Under normal circumstances I'd say that the Kings and their fans are about to see what Marcus Thornton can do, but it's almost like with Tyreke this summer, this might be the worst situation for him to go into. Have to see what Kidd does with him but that's another team with not enough balls to go around as is.

My view is that we moved a guy that the coach wasnt happy with for vets that cost less and potentially offer a more positive attitude in the locker room. Thornton doesnt try on defense and hangs his head when he doesnt get touches. Moving a personality like that should be a net positive.

The bomber seemed scrappy, no not on D, but I'm surprised he kept his mouth shut. He must have taken a lot of advice from family and agent.

Let's wish him the best, even if he had a crappy poker face, he never disrespected our team publicly at least.

That's what I'm hoping for as well. Jack would be a nice pg off the bench or even could play a sg with IT at the end of games depending on the team we're playing

So you don't mind paying 6.3 million over the next 3 to 4 years for a crappy back up pg?? I'll stick with overpaying Thompson who can backup the of and center positions. I don't feel as bad overpaying for a big compared to a pg.
