2014 draft: kings fans Insight
Hey kings fans
Like most of you, I as a pistons fan, find myself almost more excited for the draft than what's happening in the finals as the draft has the potential to greatly help many teams.
With all that said, I'm trying to get an idea on the players teams picking below us (assuming draft order stays the same) are targeting. For arguments sake let's assume parker, wiggins, embiid and exum are all off the board. If you're team is on the clock in which ORDER would you want the remaining players? There's Randle, gordon, smart, vonleh, saric and whoever else is rumoured to go 5-10.
Thanks for you're time/input and good luck for the lottery!

Would be happy with Smart or Randle. I'd be OK with getting Vonleh if both are gone.

Honestly, I would rather trade the pick for a veteran if its not Top 3.

Trading for a veteran would be us basically making our last push and putting all of our eggs into the "win-now" basket. If that veteran doesn't help push us into a contender...then our roster really has no moves to improve a lot more.
Look at GSW. They made a last ditch "win-now" push with the Iggy move...and now their roster is essentially set. They probably have just shot themselves in the foot, and unless one of their current players develops into something a lot better...then they will not have a shot at winning a title.

Thanks for all the input guys! I know none of us are event remotely close to being gm's but it's interesting to hear different fan bases wanting different players even though our team needs are quite similar.
Most piston fans atm are saying they want either smart or vonleh (I'm a biiiig vonleh supporter) whereas Randle is seen as an inferior prospect but people seem to be torn when it comes to smart

If Randle is there then him, if not Smart or Vonleh.
Not sure I like Smart for the Pistons. Vonleh could be nice though, he would make Monroe expendable I'd bet. Vonleh and Drummond would be a really nice front line.

Same here.. although I would probably even go so far as to wanting to trade it if it aint Embiid, if we feel good about retaining Rudy as I am not the highest on Wiggins or Parker. Lot of options. Rudy has said that winning is a priority to where he will sign and I wouldn't mind showing him our intentions to start to win now on draft night.

Yes, I`d much rather be in the lottery wasting Cousins' contract as opposed to where Golden State is.

Cruel, we'll probably never see eye to eye, because you clearly want to win a few games, feel good about yourself, and make the playoffs just for the experience. I want to win a title. Clearly you don't truly care about winning the championship, and clearly I don't care about meaningless wins.

Alright, let me put it this way: The best chance the Sacramento Kings have to win a championship is to build around Demarcus Cousins. We cannot build around Demarcus Cousins if he leaves the team when the team shows its committed to being a 20 win team as opposed to acquiring talent to build a winner.
You may be OK with hemorrhaging talent, but I guarantee you Cousins is not.
Let me put it another way. You say that Golden State is supposedly tapped out in terms of their prospects. They just went to 7 games with the Clippers. Why did they lose? Is it because their core is so much worse than the Clippers' core? Or is it because DeAndre Jordan, a non-core roleplayer LAC found in the second round, went ape **** on their undersized frontline minus Bogut? It was a 7 game series.
Now the Clippers are battling with OKC. Pretty even series so far, but OKC is up 2-1. Why is that? Is it because Westbrook and Durant are a step above Paul and Griffin? Or is it that Ibaka, Butler and Reggie Jackson, ie the roleplayers, are stepping up and turning the series in their favor?
At a certain point, teams' best players cancel eachother out. The difference between the 6 seed in this case (Golden State) that you have disparaged so much and the 2nd seeded championship contender is not a massive talent gap in core, its in the roleplayers. So when we are talking about building around Demarcus Cousins, who is exactly the type of talent you tank for, you do everything in your power to keep him. Thats your ticket to the championship. Not continually wasting years waiting for a talent who may not even be as good as Cousins in the first place.

Re: 2014 draft: kings fans Insight
The idea that there's one road to a championship is ludicrous. We may have differing opinions on how, but that doesn't mean we don't agree on what we want.
That being said, I'm personally really high on Embiid and Smart so I would hate to see us trade the pick if we can get either of them. If we can't, I certainly wouldn't be opposed to trading the pick, but I'd be a little disappointed to trade away a lottery pick in a solid draft.

This teams championship hopes mostly rely on one individual, and that individual is already here. I agree, there are many roads to get there but the end destination is the same and needs to be based around building the RIGHT team around that individual.

Randle feels too similar to Thomas Robinson to me. If we go down that road again we deserve to remain a lotto team.
if we don't move up and we don't trade out of the draft I am of the opinion that we should take Smart. He could come in and immediately start at PG improving our defense dramatically.

I don't really see Robinson and Randle as similar players. Robinson is an athletic PF that can rebound, but doesn't have much of an offensive game. Randle is stronger and has already developed offensive skills.

Re: 2014 draft: kings fans Insight
Randle understands how to play the game a lot better than TRob coming in. Also Randle has shown the ability to play tremendous positional and skill related defense that very few young players can grasp coming in. Then there is the talent factor, Randle might not even produce at TRobs level per minute at their respective ceilings but his impact, if that's all a team needs him for, can be much greater. I wouldn't build a team around Randle but putting Randle as a piece around you're main building block is a great option.
If he goes super high and a team expects him to be a franchise player then they'll be disappointed. I think Sac would be a great fit for him and he'd be a great fit for Sac.

I don't have a strong opinion on Randle either way but if you draft a pf how would you potentially deal with the glut? Personally I think the only way you could potentially move the perceived negative contracts of Landry and JT is through adding positive value to them heading out the door. We would also have Reggie, Acy and DWill this year.

Re: 2014 draft: kings fans Insight
Randle fits, glut be damned. They goofed when they signed Landry and didn't have a home picked out for JT. The only problem is the potential one when Malone tries to use them all. He even tried that a little last year but injuries almost saved him in a way. Playing them all does nothing but hurt them all and that won't change, hopefully he'll see that.
At this point they've turned to looking to trade a bad deal for a bad deal, sad thing is they couldn't even get that when they attempted to trade JT for Jarrett Jack. Worst case is you draft a PF and JT watches from the bench. JT really didn't look too bad last year when played as a lower minute backup C. Still doesn't help you a whole lot but he could be a solid 12-15 minute on a good night guy moving forward that only plays when Cousins is in foul trouble.

I don't see the Randle fit. I think his and Cusins' skills don't complement each other, but rather overlap.
Smart I can get behind, but I'd take Randle only to trade him.
