Divac/Webber Postups on 2002 Kings

Divac/Webber. How did these guys coexist in the post? I know they each like posting up. Did one operate top of the key/high post while other was down on low block/post? Did each guy prefer left or right side?

Divac is one of the best passing big men in history, the offense often worked through him a lot of the time. Webber played at the elbow a lot of the time.

Both bigs often extended leaving the key open, Peja would run baseline to baseline back and forth at times creating motion and moving defenders, Peja also could spot up and draw attention. Chrisite was a threat to spot up or drive to the key and pass. Bibby taking a screen with Divac or Webber and running the pick and roll. It was truly the most pleasurable offense I've ever seen.

The Kings took what the other team gave them, played team ball, and were threats all over the court.

Webber had fantastic hands, he could take a pass from anywhere, and was a thinking big as well as Divac, they could without and anxiety or fear see the court even when doubled teamed and dish the ball. You often had two high post format of sorts where the other would cut or crash the boards.

They coexisted so well because both had good range for bigs, could handle the ball, had great vision and were elite passers. You could run the offense through Vlade or C-Webb without any issues.

C-Webb liked to shoot the elbow jumper. Probably more than he should have. He also had a nice half hook he would go to in certain situations. It also helped that Vlade and C-Webb had a great supporting cast full of unselfish players during the early 2000s.

This is a pretty good clip to show some of Vlade's passing ability and basketball IQ, the video says he had 10 assists this game. You'll notice he is often in the high post, also the OG of the flop and partial flop.

Here you can see all sorts of stuff from Webber, scoring, passing, Vlade and Webber working together.

So some of us fans see how good Cousins can facilitate and kind of get reminiscent of the old days, but he is not in their league yet.

Neither were ever really post up players and yes, they ran a lot of high post motion offense. In the half court they did post up some but it was mostly cutting off the ball from themselves or others. They also ran pick and pop with Bibby quite a bit, at least Webber did.

They certainly need to incorporate some of these play sets for Cousins. When they have run some of them for Cousins he's been on the money.

They both often played in both the low and high post, and both were quite good at both. It allowed for maximum versatility.
