Draft War Room extended video

A couple highlights for me: We offered something for Philly's #3 so that we could pick Embiid, and they said no. Then they countered for #10 plus 2 second rounders for our #8. We said no. This stuff is fascinating. I love how they're letting us see all of this.

I saw this earlier from trees,

But some people may ask why not take the 10 and two seconds if you thought Nick would be there possibly.

That's some bs to do though, if you like who is there at 8 take him and never look back, two seconds are not worth the gamble if you like a prospect.

Pretty sweet insight to your FO.

Although, maybe it's me, but I think Vivek pressured the pick a little bit. I guess all owners do that though.

Yeah, they went into that whole thing with preconceived notions. Don't know if that's such a good thing. The only thing that would really hurt them is if Vonleh lives up to his potential. Other than that the best prospects by in large were gone when they picked so oh well.

I guess we know who we would have picked if we had the number one pick. And ZZZ thought vivek didn't put any added pressure on the pick ;)

Kudos to your team for offering this up. My team does not even let us know about workouts.

Our ownership is trying to change the NBA in creative and engaging ways. I love it

My take: they went into the meeting with the outsourcing focus group having already done their homework and were looking to that group as an independent validation of their findings. Preconceived notions or research with due diligence? While Vonleh could very well have added a strength to this team, PDA has always said he was looking to add talent, shooting and passing. If this is the metric they were measuring, then Stauskas > Vonleh as the King's draft pick. The focus group just added confidence to their decision.

Preconceived notions. They went into it with a coach prodding his owner about a certain player for the better part of a year. So, if he turns out, great for Malone, if he doesn't, oops. They were trying to trade up to 6 to get a player widely viewed as out of the range of the top 8 or so players. Yeah, preconceived notions it is. He's a good fit and is the type of player this team can use no question so I'm cool with the player. I think the argument that there was no real plan of how to make it fit as easily as possible within the context of the team is a valid one however after watching that and the other video.

Like I said, the other prospects that were the key players in this draft were gone by their pick. Now, if they'd have just simply passed over the other prospects available, which seems like it would have indeed been the case, then I would have had a problem with that. I'm still wondering what the other teams above thought when they they called them looking to trade up for Stauskas? If they didn't want the other prospects then fine, trade them, don't just pass them up though, they probably had a higher value associated with them than Stauskas I would imagine.

The major positive out of this video and the other is that it appears that the GM is willing to do what his coach wants. That's a good thing if Malone is as legit as he appears to be. That means for the first time in forever the GM of this team and the coach are on the same page. That alone is a reason to be optimistic.

Are you saying they were trying to get Stauskas at the 6? That's not my read at all. They were trying to get up to the 3 or 6 because that would have put them in range of Embiid. He was their first choice and the vid shows them trying to trade up in order to get him. I guess what we'll never know is if they made the necessary moves to get the 6th pick and took Stauskas over Smart and Randle because Embiid wasn't there.

my read of the situation was that the kings were relieved that the celtics took smart because that meant that Stauskas would fall to the kings because the lakers were taking randle. I think the kings were planning to trade the pick if both stauskas and gordon were off the table.

Right I think Embiid, Gordon and Stauskas were their top three choices with Smart having been in the discussion, but for one reason or another they decided against him. Not sure why this would constitute as a 'preconceived notion' mostly likely because I don't know what SacKingZZZ means by this.
