Not liking the fact we gave a future second, but that must have been the price to pay to move Terry. We'll probably just cut all those non-guaranteed contracts too.

This is huge, we can look much more realistically to add salary now in a future trade.

Very very happy.

When looked at a little deeper we turned the Thornton 8.5 million contract + a second for Evans under 2 million dollar contract.

You can't do much better than that.

Another pointless move in the grand scheme that probably hurts this team more than helps if there is no direct intent behind it. That contract could have been an asset at the deadline. As of now they traded both Outlaw and Terry, two of the only assets this team had for basically nothing. Not a terrible thing but not good to squander anything at this point. Still waiting for the follow up..... is anybody there? If this was done to make a Smith deal more cap friendly then great, if not? Time is still ticking on.

Yeah, I don't want them making a move just to make a move, but I'm getting pretty ancy. We can't head into the season with the roster as is.

I agree.

They have to start making moves very soon because they simply can't take this current roster into next season. We will get blitzed all year long and they will be looking at another lotto season too.

Can't really complain about this move since we get to dump Terry and his contract. That's more valuable than a future 2nd.

It's pretty simple.

Freeing up more room from the tax line and getting rid of potential issues on the team and opening up formerly guaranteed roster spots to chip away at the vast clutter on this team.

Terry was really a severe portential problem here if he wasn't shippd pretty soon. If they actually had to have him here with the team he had already declared himself to be a cancer in waiting because he didnt want to be here.

The space salary-wise opens up either way but now if we are dealing with a team like Detroit, we just gave them an easier situation as they do not have to deal with a similar possibility with Terry.

I'm sure this means your getting Rondo now

I don't know about that. If Rondo thinks it would be so bad to play here, then he can go screw himself. Iguodala jerked the Kings around last summer, and they didn't hesitate to pull their offer. Playing for the Kings is a privilege, and if they show the Kings some respect, they'll return the favor by moving heaven and Earth for their players. Flip us off even a little bit, and their existence won't even be acknowledged.

Good solid perspective man. If we don't respect ourselves then no one else will. Buy into the philosophy or take the money at least or piss off.

I'm not convinced he would not resign with Sacramento, nor am I convinced I want to gamble on his injury history, attitude, unknown commitment.

But we have some breathing room now, the handcuffs are a little more flexible. We can ante up in trades now we could not have before.

It cost us two seconds, but Evans is a quality role player and Thornton is gone, so I'm happy to just have the FO get back into other trade talks with the seconds as the antes.

Rondo is overrated anyway. If they gave up anything close to what was rumored at the deadline it would have been horrible for Sacramento. There is a reason Ainge has never been totally against trading Rondo. He's a good player, not a true star, and not a player you build your team around. I can see ways he'd fit but I can see ways that Smith would fit much better especially since they just signed another PG with the MLE.

Who knows what's real but if the reports about him thinking he should get a 100 million dollar deal his next go around are true then I would hope nobody with even a remote say in Sacramento wants him either.

True, I think we should look elsewhere unless we can get Rondo particularly cheap, which is feasible IMO.

Now with our wallets a little relieved who knows. Maybe Detroit takes Thompson straight up for Smith for example. Maybe we move Williams + Ellington for Smith instead and look for a lateral dump with JT or Carl.

What we had was not going to work it seems to bring something back, now we can go with exprings Williams+Ellington 9 million or so, or move a cheaper JT with no other strings.

We have negotiation room now.

I'm excited.

I'm happy about this. Slowly but surely, the front office is dumping our bad contracts. They're also putting us in a position to make a big move sooner rather than later.

And boohoo it cost us 2 second round picks. We can always trade for a second round pick should we need one later. Second rounders are routinely moved in this league. And besides, we have 6 first and second year guys on the roster right now. We should be trying to develop within and acquiring veteran talent, not worrying about future second round picks.

I agree completely with this. The "assets" this team has is getting thinner by the trade and if it doesn't lead into something bigger I won't be happy how PDA has handled this offseason.

Correct me if Im wrong. Aren't we still over the salary cap even with Terry's $5mil of the book? Therefore we can't take significant $$$ back from any trade. So Thompson for Smith straight up wouldnt work.

Also, I think the FO has move on from Rondo after signing Collison. If we get Rondo, Collison would be a backup playing about 15 mins per game, since neither guys can play at the 2. That is one expensive backup guard playing limited minutes. The FO brought Collison in assuring him he would be the starter.
