Pelicans vs Kings 11/18

Post#1 » by ICMTM » Tue Nov 18, 2014 10:59 pm

Kings Injuries:
*Rudy Gay (Questionable)
*Jason Thompson (Probable)

Last Year's Head to Head
3-1 (Kings won the series)

Coach Malone give us this gem:

http://bcove.me/m9xdqjrf

"How many times do you have to hit rock bottom? Look at our record, we've hit rock bottom four or five times now," Malone continued. "Maybe some of these guys are so used to losing that they're accustomed to it. I'm not. I'm not used to losing. I'm used to being in the playoffs, being a competitive team that takes pride in its defense. Right now we don't have a lot of guys to do that. I'm not sure what their rock bottom is, but I hit my rock bottom about one week into the season."

And Another:

"If [our] guys didn't think [Evans] was going to come into this arena and try to get off, I question their IQ," Malone said. "He played here, and he's going to come in here and try to show everyone what we're missing. And he did."

KEYS TO THE GAME

Foul trouble. DMC has to stay out of it, and get AD in it!
Force Evans to shoot. He won't but if we can some how keep him out of the lane that would be nice

I'll be in attendance...so I'll post again when I get home.

I just hope they don't try to attack Davis with Thompson. I'm pretty sure when Malone has tried to go outside of this teams strengths, even if it's worked, the team has lost. Ride your horses coach. They have to watch the pick and roll with Davis, that's the one area where Davis can get off on JT if they don't watch out. Also, the PF's on this team need to give Cousins room to work inside. I'm so sick of seeing two players on each side of the paint every time Cousins or Gay are trying to get inside. That will just give Davis easy chances to go full swat on help. Cousins also needs to watch for JT on the perimeter when Davis comes to help.

So I'm pretty sure Davis is gonna get his. My key to this game is don't let the rest of the Pelicans beat you.

I will be waiting to see Davis guard Cuz. Cousins has bullied him at times in the past but I get Davis has leveled up. Still think Brow is too thin to bang in the paint with Cuz.

My prediction:
Brow goes 28/13/3 blk /2 stl

Cuz goes 24/15/1 blk/2 stl and finishes with 5 fouls

Cousins stays in foul trouble plays 29 min

Kings win 107-95

I don't think Davis will be guarding Cousins tonight. In the last 4 matchups last year, there were about < 10 instances where he actually did. Most likely, the Pelicans will send in their goons and guard Cousins. They are protecting Davis from a beat down if he tries to guard Cousins now lol Cousins would go through Davis like it's nothing.

The player that scares me the most is Ryan Anderson. If the Kings rely on help too much in the paint he could kill it tonight.

Why is Ryan Anderson not a King?

All I ask for is the refs to stay the hell out of the way today and let the big boys play.

I can live with anything else.

OK, things are going well, but this game is way too up tempo for the Kings. They need to slow this one down a tad. We know what happens when they play this way. Looks good for awhile but when it's time to get down to the bread and butter they come up empty.

Uh Malone, maybe it's time to bring your starters back in? Perhaps? Maybe? Oh okay just wait until it's tied.

Kings definitely are not getting any whistles tonight. Possibly because of the protest?

Casspi is the only guy who isn't afraid of the zone.

Casspi isn't afraid of anything, haha. Maybe even when he should be.

Solid first half.

Malone may have left the bench in a little too much.

I have one concern though, the open 3's.

If they get hot we could be in trouble.

With the style of D the Kings play the open 3 is always going to be a problem if guys sag too much into the paint. I liked when they had Rudy at PF and they switched all the screens. McCallum did a decent job on Anderson on that one switch. He has a little bit of Hinrich in him for sure, big enough to not get immediately crunched on bad matchups.

Ben Mac didn't look confident at all in that first half. Cousins got him a wide open shot and he passed it up. Still some growing pains out of him.

Trying to grasp that move the ball and Rudy roaming.

I think Rudy probably told him to take the shot, I'd be surprised if we see a repeat of that in the second half unless he misses his first 3-4 shots.

If Jason Thompson is your leading scorer...you'll lose the game but win by upping his trade value
