So we always say we desperately need 3 point shooting, and I know it's the D-League but....

Reno Bighorns guard Brady Heslip has caught the nation’s attention with his huge early season numbers and lights-out three-point shooting. Two games into the season the guard was even featured in the New York Times.

Points Per Game
Through five games, Heslip is averaging a league-leading 34.8 points per game (minimum three games). Which, at its current pace would set a league record. Manny Harris of the Los Angeles D-Fenders set the mark last year averaging a gaudy 31.6 points per game in 22 contests.

Three-Pointers Made
A key to the rookie’s success has been his ability to shoot the long ball. No. 7 has connected on 45 of his 75 three-point attempts this season – an eye-popping 60% - and is currently averaging nine made three’s per game. 45 is also his career-high for points scored in a game, a number that he may surpass again this season.

I'd be curious to see how well his game translates to the NBA. On cursory examination, those D-League games are all high scoring. This tells me that almost all the players on the court are scorers and none of them are defenders. While we need shooting. We don't need players who are incapable of defending on the other end.

Reno's are especially high scoring because they play full court pressure all game, sub out 5 new players every 2 minutes, treat the shot clock like it is 12 seconds long, and the coach says only take 3 pointers or layups, mid range jumpers are a no no

Because teams can't sign players to 10-day contracts until after January 5.
