Nik Stauskas

I'm a really big Michigan fan and Nik is one of my favorite Michigan alums. I really thought he'd have a fairly easy time adapting to the pros (although I did think he might have benefitted from another year in school), but apparently I was wrong, or was it Malone's system? has he been getting abused on defense? I know he was never very good at that end of the floor. Do any of you have the sense that a new coach might make better use of him, or does he just need time, or is he a bust?

Thoughts?

He's a scorer with little time seeing the ball. He's was a top 10 pick SG drafted right after a top 10 pick SG. His problem more than anything, besides normal rookie ups and downs, is he was drafted to a team trying to win. Well, at least supposedly trying to win. It's tough to rely on rookies when that's the case. Also the problem is that both of those SG's are pretty much relegated to playing SG. They aren't true multi-positional players so it's a whoever is playing well tonight kind of thing right now. He's shown flashes, but just like with Ben last year, situation is playing a major factor in the ups and downs he's experiencing.

As for his play. It's all about confidence with him, just like Ben or any other rookie with potential. Defensively I think he's done a pretty good job and if he sticks to what he's doing now he has a shot to be a pretty good defender down the road. As for a coaching change, for the reasons I stated above it's going to be hard for Nik to have a good shot with this team on most nights. The issue is with personnel more than anything because he isn't someone you can just stick anywhere. If they go with their "positionless" basketball idea maybe he'll see time at SF? I don't know but I'm not sure that's a good thing for him right now. Depending on matchups he could potentially get abused there. Tough situation for him right now.

He's fine right now.

He has shown he can be lethal from the outside, he has shown the ability to stay in front of his man defensively.

Just gonna take time to put it all together and work on strength conditioning.

Look for minor improvements by the break, but not much better for the remainder of the season.

Gonna take maybe 2 seasons to develop real NBA game.

Now if he could not score period, or could never stay in front of his man I'd be worried.

There's been too many times where my entire section has yelled at Nik "shoot it" as he passes the ball and passes up good looks.

He's at a Jr High dance...1st time he's seen cleavage let alone learn how to keep his eyes from drifting downward.

I think Kings fans vary a lot on the kid's future and it is kind of a touchy subject so I won't get into that.

The kid this season to me has been disappointing so far. No real way for me personally to take 33% from the field, having opposing coaches targeting him, while in general IMO playing minutes that have adversely affected the team. Just being real. To me, we have to compare this to the fact that a lot Kings fans felt he could have held his own as a starter just a couple months ago.

He's a rookie and I understand they have different learning curves, but that doesn't mean IMO we don't not hold them accountable for what they are showing currently
