And with the 10th Pick the Kings Choose (Conspiracy Theory)

Does anyone else just believe we're trying to hold our 10th pick and this is the true reason for the Malone firing?

In other words: are the Kings tanking? I'd have to say No.

Personally I don't believe firing Malone changes the Kings fate this season based on what I saw last night against OKC.

I don't think Vivek did it. I think this is all PDA. I just think Vivek is taking the brunt of it through the media. However I'm not buying this style of play nonsense. Winning is a style of play. We were starting to win. There is a big blueprint that suggests the track we were on would win faster than running up and down the court.

I'm crying foul.

Mark Jackson played for the Knicks. They played defense.
Ty Corbin is a Jerry Sloan disciple. They played defense
The positionless Spurs...play defense.
The Bulls in the 90's...Played defense
The Kings of old didn't get to the championship discussion until they played defense.

It's pretty well accepted that defense wins.

If this is really about winning we were already on that track. Who has ever been fired over a style of play that has been working? It's only happened because a better coach was on deck OR the coach was blamed for not winning it all. We're not in that win it all position.

I'm not buying this style of play bull!

Kings wanna level up now that there is a respectable foundation. I'm not mad at that.

I would hope they know better than that, this draft is going to SUCK! I love Harrel and there are some decent talents up top but any and every GM knows this isn't the draft to have a lotto pick in. Solid prospects, nothing jaw dropping. Considering the teams below the Kings I think it's almost a guarantee, unless something dramatic happens (hopefully not! unless that's a lotto victory of course!) that the pick will wind up between 10-14

Would it not be easier to just tell Malone that they wanted the 10th pick and winning games is not that important.

Malone wouldn't be on board on tanking. He doesn't seem the type of coach who actively sabotages games for a lotto pick. That said, I don't think the FO/ownership had tanking in mind. They severely underestimated the impact of firing Malone. The FO/ownership aren't malicious, imo but they are delusional about the team. Vivek thinks we are a piece or two away from playoffs.

The FO/ownership had a "style of play" (uptempo/small ball) in mind. Malone had his (defensive/physical) "style of play". So basically, they fired him due to "philosophical differences" or some bullsh*t

Apparently, it was never meant to be.

I don't think so. They would be putting their jobs and reputation on the line by purposefully sabotaging the team. With the plethora of poor teams currently I don't think you could tank into the top 6. Then is risking the team worth a late lotto pick? Late lotto is a crap shoot, as we can see by Niks progress so far

Kings aren't tanking but I don't see a coherent plan from the FO. Kind of feels like a lost season.

Getting this year's pick wouldn't really solve the problem. It remains top 10 protected until the 2017 draft. So unless they are trying to go from bottom 10 team to a playoff team in one year, all to avoid giving up a pick, this strategy makes no sense as a way to protect a significant asset.
