OT: DeAndre Jordan to change his mind on Dallas?

Post#1 » by City of Trees » Wed Jul 8, 2015 5:20 pm

@basketballtalk: Report: Clippers set meeting with DeAndre Jordan, want him to reverse his decision to join Mavericks http://dlvr.it/BSWjRV

Jordan has agreed to meet with Doc Rivers in Houston in an attempt by LAC to get Jordan to reverse his verbal commitment to Dallas and instead come back to LA..... It's reported Jordan's had second thoughts since choosing Dallas. The fact DJ agreed to meet with the Clippers says his mind isn't made up completely and the door is open for a return to the Clippers.... How f'd up would that be, Dallas fans would have to feel devastated! I think this is a great time to open a conversation about the first week of NBA free agency where the cap isn't known and players can't sign contracts. I believe this week is a joke and leaves teams in awkward situations like this one... Why doesn't the NBA open FA once the cap is known and players can sign contracts upon agreement?

Yes the NBA needs to change the whole FA procedures. Right now this is pretty entertaining tho.

@MySportsLegion: Paul Pierce is expected to be at the meeting with DeAndre Jordan today. (via @DanWoikeSports)

@MySportsLegion: Mark Cuban and Doc Rivers have both flown to Houston. Rivers to meet with DJ, Cuban to try &"fend" off the Clippers. (@ESPNSteinLine) Crazy.

I really thought it was a smart thing for the Clipps to let him go. That way they'll be in the hunt next offseason for a real star. This would be pretty pansy if Jordan backed out.

Wonder if this does anything to Wes Matthews if Jordan bails? I say the Kings ask if he wants out of Dallas and promise him the space that's left or a mimimum deal, whichever is higher haha.

He's crazy not to take that money and run. Dallas is WAYYY overpaying him. Too soft hearted and sentimental to be business-like about this. On the other-hand, if he want's to chase a ring he's got a better chance in Clipper land. Barring some interesting long-term planning that Dallas has in store. I can barely see a method to this madness of paying DAJ that much money. They must have a number of talented back-court prospects in mind when the salary cap goes up.

The Clipps supposedly offered him 29 million more though and he turned it down. Now, that's crazy.

Why did DJ commit to Dallas in the first place if he's unsure & indecisive still? DJ called Doc this Monday saying he's "unsure" about the commitment with Dallas. I mean, really?? I hope DJ & Clippers get blackballed hard because of this situation.

Also, what happens with Wes? Correct me if I'm wrong but one of the reasons why Wes signed with Dallas is the prospects of him playing alongside with DJ. If he were to back out of his agreement with Dallas (if that's even a possibility), would the Kings be interested in him again? If Wes spurned Sacramento before, why would Sacramento approach him still? It would a new low for us if we decided to cancel our agreements with Beli & Koufos to bring in Wes. If you thought the media has been "harsh" with the Kings before, I think they will go ball deep with this one, imo. I hope that doesn't come to fruition.

I would say hell no! I'd rather have Koufos and Beli anyways (I think Matthews is overrated plus that injury), plus like you said it would make the Kings look bad and we already have a bad image. Lastly, I think it would be hilarious to watch Matthews play for a lot less money on a worse team.

I would really hope we don't go back after Matthews if he backs out. If he does, which I think is a big if, I would assume he would go back to Portland? I'm sure they would love to him back.

Hopefully this does not cause some freak FA wave where we end up losing someone somehow.

And now another playoff spot has officially been opened. Portland out, Dallas out, OKC back in.

Jordan hella screwed over Dallas. Ruined their entire off season. The NBA has to change the way FA starts. Teams should not be at the mercy of players keeping their words... I know its not the case here but what if Jordan's plan was to F Dallas all along. Teams should be protected. Dallas now has missed out on top tier FA essentially setting the team back. I'd be pissed if i was Cuban.

Boozer did something similar, but worse. He had a handshake deal in place for his current team (cavs) that let him out of his contract early to sign a new one. He ended up leaving Cleveland in the process and screwing over a blind man.

Great news for Kings fans!

When Portland fell out of the playoff race it only meant New Orleans wouldn't have to sweat too much to make the playoffs.

But now Dallas is out, the Kings have a very real chance to make the playoffs!

Can the Kings fend off the Jazz and Suns for a playoff spot?

Absolutely. The Suns have no chance against us, and the Jazz don't have a point guard.

But...

The way I saw it, the Clips, who we were already pretty competitive with, got a whole lot weaker without DAJ while our roster improved significantly. The Mavs gave us trouble last year largely because we could not contain Ellis in their pick and pop system. Replacing Monta with DAJ did not make them very much of a threat to us. This move made two playoff teams relatively mediocre in the West as opposed to making just one poor team.

But when all is said and done, it's not about the matchup but more the record at the end of the season.

I'm torn. This definitely puts the Mavs out of contention, but makes the Clips just as strong as ever. Not sure what Pierce will bring to the table for that crew. Our squad just needs to bring it every night. We've got the talent to do well in the West.

I think his point is that Portland and Dallas fall out. Those are the two spots available. OKC obviously takes one of them. It will be a fight between us, Utah and Phoenix for that last spot.

I'm more concerned about Mavs and Koufos, hurry up and officially sign him (though I'm sure the Mavs org is more classy).

Bad news for the west. DJ signing with Mavs would have taken out Clips and not made the Mavs as formidable as some were thinking. Now Clips are back
