Rondo: Will the Kings resign him?

Has there been any talk about what the Kings plan to do with Rondo after the season? Are they going to resign him?

Do you want them to resign him?

Personally I never want to see Rondo in a Kings jersey past this season.

As for Rondo to me it really depends on what ends up happening to Cousins because if Cousins stays (more likely than not right now) then I could see the Kings looking to resign Rondo more so because Cousins is a big fan of Rondo.

To answer the first question there hasn't been much speculation either way.

The FO probably wants to keep Rondo but I hope he signs with another team. Resigning Rondo in an attempt to appease Cousins would be unwise since he probably won't be around beyond next season.

I don't even know if Cousins wants Rondo as back that much. They are boys, and have a great mutual respect, but Collison might fit his game better. Does Cousins want to watch somebody taking 10 seconds off the clock or does he want the offense ran through him and Gay like it was with DC last year? Collisons style as an off ball, floor stretcher, who can play full court D when motivated

Collison doesn't want to be a back up again. So its going to come down to one of them. I liked Collisons fit with the starters last year, and last year the Kings had statistically one of the best units in the league prior to Collison going down.

I actually think the opposite, that Rondo would be better without ball dominance at other positions. And if the Kings traded Cousins for youth (which I hope doesn't happen), Rondo would be a better veteran quarterback

I have no idea on what we will do.

I will say Rondo likely takes the most cash as he should to whoever offers it.

In addition to fit issues, we are going to have a certain amount of cash this summer to pursue free agents

With the rumors about Anderson being a surefire get for the Kings this summer, I'm not sure they can bring Rondo back if Anderson commands too much.

I wouldn't be pissed to see him back, but yeah, I'm also in the camp that it's probably better to move on. He's a defensive liability on a team not chalk full of defenders. If you have a team not full of high quality lock down types then a PG that can pressure the ball and stick to the opposing teams PG like glue is a must.

Sounds like he wants to be back. I don't know if that would be the best move though.

I'd consider ,moving on... Depends on the FA options. I would not draft Dunn as a replacement starter however if Dunn is the pick I would not be opposed to Rondo returning on a 2-3 year deal. Give time for Dunn too develop

The Kings have Collison so a replacement starter might be on the team already. And at 22 Kris Dunn could maybe even fill in that bench scorer role right away since he should be pretty much developed at this point and he projects to be a Jamal Crawford/Barbosa type.

We've got some moveable contracts. Who knows. I refuse to believe we've seen the best of Rondo's defensive abilities with our current schemes however.

Unfortunately we have to sort of pay in the blind with a new coach coming.

Don't be too sure. I really think the Kings may have blown their opportunity to get out of Kostas deal at the deadline. Hopefully that Cleveland deal is still available this summer because the C position in FA might be stacked enough to make the few teams really looking to fill their C spot with some depth turn away from a Koufos deal. This could be another JT thing where the league has too many similar or better options to choose from at the exact time the Kings are looking to move some salary. It's the same thing with Belinelli.

True true.

I disagree with your assessment on Dunn's projection. Haven't completely formed my own opinion yet but I don't see Crawford/Barbosa when I watch Dunn.

The difference is the dollar per cap ratio.

3 years ago I would have agreed. I'd certainly rather have used the money differently myself. I put his contract as "selectively" fair to neutral. Minor positive asset but only proper for some teams.

The modern jarl thompandry deal is more like the Henson contract.

He's about that size and somewhat slender. He's also not a great assist to turnover guard. Not terrible but not great either. Also, he isn't super explosive vertically so he creates shots in a lot of the same ways we used to see Barbosa and Crawford do. His below the rim finishing and quick first step are reminiscent of Barbosas IMO. Barbosa was good at creating space on layups in traffic and Dunn does much of the same things like laying his body into help defenders trying to swat his shot. While his below the rim play might be a liability he does the best he can to make up for it with his smarts. All in all when I watch him play I see a lot of Leandro Barbosa in his game.

Big difference, and advantage for Dunn is his very good D, which no one of those play at high level

I'm not completely sold on Dunn defensively, but he should be a good defender. When I've watched Providence I didn't see a ton of NBA defense being run. He has some of the tools though. It depends on who he has to guard, because he's a tad bit small for a wing. That's why I have some hopes for Valentine being a little better at the NBA level than in college. Late in the year Michigan ran a lot more NBA defense and in particular switch defense, and while he's far from a stopper I think he has the potential to be able switch and at least provide some resistance on the perimeter in a team set because of his size.
