Kings offseason in review on the trade board

As part of a series of offseasons in review a few of us have been doing on the trade board -- viewtopic.php?f=2&t=1467470, today was the Kings turn.

Please feel free to check it out at -- viewtopic.php?f=2&t=1473280 -- and weigh in on what you agree and disagree with. The Kings (like Phx before them) have been one of our bigger discrepancy among reviewers so far, with 2 B's and 2 D's (One a B- off this offseason in isolation, but D with context); and expected win totals ranging from 27 to 42! Thanks!

Wish you guys would of held off a bit more, assuming the room exception is used for a pg or a trade to be announced later.

It's August 22nd! There aren't any good options left at PG either.

Lawson, Chalmers, Cole, Blake and Hinirch are all still available. Any of those guys would be a decent option for backup minutes.

I wouldn't mind Hinrich at all. I'm surprised he's still out there. He might be waiting for a contender mid-season though. I think they might wait until preseason and see how I. Cuz works first.

Farmar is also available. He's always been a solid player at backup.

Like I said, none of them are good options. I see 2 DUIs and a career that has fallen off a cliff, a guy coming off an epic injury, an inefficient backup that's best suited as a 3rd string PG, and a couple guys in their 30s that are over the hill. None of those options are good. They're stop-gap's, at best.

Sure let's start a Papa G for PG campaign and let him run the offense off the bench.

You can't wait on Vlade any longer it's the end of August. If signing a FA point guard was a priority it would have already happened. Grades stand.

I get there was some major overhaul going on with coaching and the bench but man there are tons of unanswered questions in regards to the make up of this roster and it's direction. I follow closely and at this point in time I can't tell if they think Cousins is resigning or not. I know they'd love for him to resign but I'm looking at some of their moves and I believe the FO views the departure of Cousins as a possibility. At what probability who knows.

I have to agree with this. I think Kendall Marshall when Philly cuts him is a better option, and when you are taking Philly's 4th string pg to be your 2nd string, thats tough.

I do feel like both Sacramento and Phoenix might have a big trade up their sleeves, and if anyone does a ground breaking trade I might just throw them in the mix for a re-grade. Orlando got punished for having no legit starting pg yet going win now as well.

What do you expect, we should have signed Conley? I mean we can look at all the good PG options there were in free agency and how many of those do you expect we had a real chance of signing? In that group I see vets that have contributed on successful, winning teams but they aren't good options? Isn't that the kind of culture we're trying to build? If so, we need to bring in guys that have been there and done that. Also, any of those options are better than having zero point guards on opening night.

I expected our Front Office to have addressed this major issue by now. You all talk about how great of a job Vlade is doing, yet here we are heading into August 25th and we still have a gaping hole at PG, with the only real PG on the roster potentially facing suspension. How anybody can view that situation as a positive, or as anything but a negative, is beyond me.

I think they signed Afflalo and Tolliver to those short-term deals with only small guarantees for the 2nd season because they are planning out a Cousins trade package that includes those guys as contract filler. At least I hope that's the plan.

There is absolutely no chance that Vlade is planning that. He signed them to those short deals because it leaves us with cap flexibility in case they don't work out as opposed to being stuck with them for 4 years.

You do realize it works for both scenarios, right?

I love how you can completely dismiss my speculative statement and then immediately retort with your own speculative statement and pass it off as fact.

That's because my statement is a fact. They signed them to short term deals to maintain cap flexibility, there is not really any argument to be had on that.

Your scenario works, but is highly unlikely. What kind of return are you thinking we would get that would require us sending out $35m+ in salary? You have been saying for weeks that we should trade cousins for future picks and young assets which wouldn't be near that much in salary.

It's not a fact. Unless you are dozencousins' contact that works in the Kings Front Office, you don't know anything more than I do. I'm just reading between the lines. Having veteran contributors signed to deals that are bloated on paper but only partially guaranteed are great filler for potential trades, and DeMarcus Cousins is probably going to be traded one way or another whether you like it or not.

I should have specified that they don't BOTH need to be included with Boogie in a potential deal. There are multiple other guys that the Kings can be looking to trade, such as Rudy/Collison/Koufos/McLemore or even some of their rookies. Either way, Afflalo and Tolliver's contracts are great pieces for trade filler.

LOL

I don't work in the Kings front office

Update :

Source just texted me and told me that finally a Rudy Gay trade will happen any day now as we are very close to multiple offers .
I am confident though it is just my educated guess based on info I have been given a deal is likely to happen between now and Monday though I am not going to guarantee it . Kings are likely not going to get much in return to be honest Kings just want to dump his @ss .

Minny , Heat are most likely to get him but Celtics , 76ers & Clippers as well as Pacers have been sniffing around .

I'm not sure how Rudy could land Rubio from a Wolves perspective, Collison out too probably wouldn't help get that done.

I'm not sure Dragic would fit, if I was Miami I wouldn't move Winslow, this would be different if they still had the big 3, but not if not contending.

With Boston Smart may be a decent guy to grab if possible.

Not much from the 76ers

Clippers the only thing worth chasing is Reddick, but we have depth at SG now.

With the Pacers maybe Monta? At least he has a multi year deal. Makes me wonder if they want Collison too and send something else back out.

I just hope if the Kings move Rudy, they realize getting that production back might not be easy if it turns out they need it.

I doubt a deal for Rudy would be centered around a PG, I'm guessing some form of young prospect and or picks. I'm not sure how that would help though.
