Vivek Interview With USA Today

Interesting article from USA Today. Vivek denies a lot of the involvement the media has stated he's had in basketball decisions including the 5 on 4 idea and even the Stauskas pick. He also talks about the Malone/D'Allesandro situation which I found pretty interesting. The interview is clearly him trying to get a more positive image of him as an owner but just like when all the mentioned things came out, it's impossible to know how much of it is true.
I’d had another player who had tried out for us that I had liked, and that I had thought was great. And by the way, I’ll tell you, it was (Orlando Magic point guard) Elfrid Payton. But everybody else wanted another player – (Nik) Stauskas (now of the Philadelphia 76ers). And so they told me to say (Stauskas), and obviously I’m not going to say that I wanted Payton but they picked Stauskas. I made a big deal of all-for-one and one-for-all, so ‘Whatever you guys decide, I’m going to say yeah to Stauskas.’ That got put on camera, but what was I going to say, that ‘Hey, I don’t agree with their choice?’

I liked the part where Vivek said he called a meeting with all minority owners to ask who has a problem? Vivek claims not one minority owner raised his hand at which point Vivek said if anyone does have any problems he will write them a check today. Lmao. Savage Vivek.

I mean, I want to believe a lot of this is true, and maybe it is, but it just sounds like he is trying to cover his own butt...

He desperately wants to turn that page.

I think every Sacramento fan wants to. But the team is an easy target for the media at this point, so no page is turning unless the team starts winning.

I'm glad he finally came out and set the record straight. For Vivek to be making the moves that the team has made pre-Vlade and even now with Vlade at the helm he'd have to know far about the nuances of personnel than I think he even cares to.

Nah, I've been bringing this up on the board for awhile now, look at the moves, you can tell that Vivek couldn't even tell some of the names of the players if his life depended on it. He's also a pretty laid back dude, for him to be overly anal about this kind of stuff is incredibly unlikely. If anything I think he's realized he was too far hands off and that was the issue.

Except that if he was more involved now, all the players would be playing with 'jazz hands'.

I'm not completely sold on the timing of it (for the teams sake) but I'm not sure that it really hurts us any.
I think he needed to come out and do this, for both his and teams sake for the future, and I guess why not do it when we are going to be on the way up.

Geoff Petrie just blasted Vivek and I partially agree.
Vivek should have just owned everything even if it wasn't his fault. That's the only way to move on. Regardless of who did what, blame always starts at the top and Vivek's attempt to shield himself has brought on a prolonged assault against him and the Kings

Seems that there are a lot of people who are coming out against this interview. I think that this interview with Geoff Petrie is interesting....

Petries claims I don't doubt are true, but even his statement about Vivek relates back to Vivek himself relying on the knowledge of others. The more that comes out, the more I think it's going to become clearer that Vivek doesn't know his basketball *** from a hole in the ground. Which is either a good thing, or a bad thing. I'm still not sure. The positive is that in that interview it seems like Vivek is fully realizes it now, if he didn't then already. The hope is he's learned from it and it's brought him back down a peg or two.

Now Vivek is understanding why you don't become an open book all at once. He should have chosen to defend himself at the time all these various shots came out IMO. The truth is always somewhere in the middle. Vivek once claimed that previous management (Petrie?) offered some advice in trading Cousins. Did Petrie deny it? I'd be interested to hear the end of that one.

Vivek quote from SacBee today in response to Petrie.
“I meant no disrespect. I have the utmost respect for what they have done for the franchise and what they have accomplished. I fully understand that it’s a huge privilege to own a basketball team, and as chairman of the ownership, the buck stops with me. I accept responsibility for everything. All the mistakes are my mistakes.”
Seriously?! Vivek that's all you had to say in your USA today interview. This guy is always one step behind in Basektball politics.
