What catches my eye is the "and NBA" part.

First signs of legit proof league officials see Sacramento (Vivek)as a problem or in need of assistance.

If they want to be more professional they need a better PR and marketing team first and foremost. Don't forget, Vlade never wanted to be the guy handling all the GM duties to begin with. Maybe he also finally convinced Vivek to bring in someone else. Oddly enough, whoever's call it was for the Kings in the last draft and the Cuz trade has done a fantastic job considering the circumstances so hopefully that voice doesn't get silenced. I'd take that over Hinkies stockpile to the end of time method. It's like Boston, at what point do you finally pull the trigger on those great assets?

What happens to Vlade? A demotion? I can't see Hinkie deferring to Vlade if he were to assume some sort of GM responsibilities.

I think this only means he will come in and assist Vlade.
Kind of like Vlade will show him his vision, which he has done a fair job so far, but Hinkie will make it happen without getting fleeced.

I don't think Hinkie would bend the knee for a inexperienced GM in Vlade, imo. The ship Hinkie operates is full-control or bust. I don't see it happening here unless Vivek gives the green light and fires Vlade and his friends to make way for an all-Hinkie office.

Is Hinkie looking for a full control position though?
I thought I read somewhere a little while back that he had some other things on his plate and he was quite happy to keep doing it (family orientated or something).
I might be completely wrong on that, but if so he might like a good pay check without as much commitment.
Having said that it looks like the Kings have refuted the report so who knows

I don't know about Hinkie's intentions or goals. I'm just saying that if Hinkie is brought in as a full-fledged GM to replace Vlade, there will be a clean house. Imagine if you are in Hinkie's shoes, would you rather have the previous old heads around (who may obstruct his judgement/action) or your men? It's an easy choice for him.

Vlade is head of basketball ops and GM, correct? Based on the Kings statement (not appointing someone over Vlade), I read it as the Kings want to hire a GM and keep Vlade Basketball Ops. Got permission to talk with Hinkie but it didn't work out.

Remember telling ya'll years ago to tank properly and build it slow....

From Jarl Thompandry, to today, trying to turn poop into gold...

Please hire Hinkie, tear it all down for awhile and build it up properly.

I'm getting too old to pretend for too may more cycles.

Prior to the DMC I was all for getting rid of Vlade the Philly trade was a disaster and he was not changing anything and keeping us a 30 win team with a supposed "star" player who his own teammates hated and a lot of people were getting tired of watching. But to be fair to Vlade his 4 picks and the guy he traded for have looked promising in Skal/WCS/Heild/Papa/Richardson and the two/three vets he brought in have been productive in Temple/AT/KK. The guy probably deserves another chance maybe.

I think we need to bring in someone to help even more with draft picks even more even though it seems Vlade has had some solid hits these two picks are vital.

I'm not sure what "rebuild properly" means. Rebuilding through the draft just seems to me to be a fools errand. While it happens, no one can claim that they understand how it happens until afterwards. To me, it s 90% luck. Take the W's for example. If anyone knew how good Curry, Thompson, and Green would be in the NBA, they wouldn't have gone 7th, 11th, and 35th in the draft respectively.

What's more important is how the players complement each other. And that kinda reflects what we're seeing in the W's.

We've already started to 'tear it down' by removing the franchise foundation in DMC. Now it seems we're rebuilding around a new culture and the vets are acknowledging that and beginning to enjoy playing here.

I don't know about Hinkie. He's been great at assembling assets, but he was replaced by Jerry Coangelo largely based on the fact that it hasn't improved the 76rs standing in near half a decade. Assets give you more opportunities to reach into that bag of players that is the draft in hopes of pulling out something magical, but he hasn't demonstrated an ability to assemble a team.

The 76'ers are still the bottom despite all those high draft picks..

While I find the option of Hinkie questionable, I'm not against moving Vlade over for someone who can make decisions in line with a modern day NBA. Refusing to make trades until you're in the same room with your trade partner seems like pre-internet type management to me.

When the Maloofs were here we had Thompson signed on an inflated deal, and Thornton.

Pretty much everything else was open besides a pick debt to Chicago.

We should of developed for years without spending money on people like Landry, Hayes or any other veteran who really wasn't worth much.

We've tried to use make shift guys on inflated salary for a long long time.

No way Hinkie lets IT go for nothing for example too.

Every asset we've had has been discarded, every penny spent on bs.

Wasted golden opportunities.

Now that Cousins is gone, if it takes several patient years, then take them. Look at all of the Philly assets for example.

Should note SacKingZZZ and I argued with you guys back then about bad mid level loot on multi years then too. Like the Thompson contract, but you guys get so attached to fellas and think we can will ourselves to somewhere.

Geoff Petrie was a good GM, but one of his downfalls was sticking to his guys to the end. He waited way too long to move players like Bibby and Miller and re-signed guys that had much less value on the market because he had loyalty. I'm OK with giving out deals if the player fits, but don't trade for freaking Hickson, draft TRob, and hold onto JT. That makes no sense. Maybe do two of those things, perhaps even one, but not all three.

Which, BTW could be a perfect transition to why signing Hinkie could be a mistake. What did the guy actually do? Trade for picks that haven't really amounted to anything guaranteed yet? Draft a bunch of obvious picks in the top of the lotto? Vlade might have gotten two or three of the best players in this last draft with almost no assets to speak of. Sure, you could argue the Cuz trade was a disaster but I'm always for going all out for the target you want (Hield) rather then picking up faceless "assets". Vlade is doing it right so far.
