Team ball is a good thing, but my goodness, this team will go nowhere until they start feeding their best offensive talent and looking to have them produce as a unit. Joergers desire to feature lesser than players and put lesser talent units on the floor when you are at a talent disadvantage won't get it done. Also this Buddy or Bogdan either or thing got old a long time ago. With no Cousins you can truly see how directionless this system is at times.

Dave Joerger has these guys walking the ball up and running some of the slowest pace offensive sets you could imagine in garbage time. Nope. He's not the right leader for this young squad. 29th in pace with a PG like Fox, and gunners like Buddy and Bogdan. I would love to be sitting in those exit interviews at the end of the year.

I think this ^ will ultjmately be Joerger’s downfall in Sac. If you have a bad team you have a bad team. But playing a style of ball that totally nullifies the best skill of your best young player is inexcusable. I wonder what Fox’s numbers would look like playing for a coach who pushes the pace.

It's the same old story with the Kings, either pick the right players for your coach or get the right coach. Too many of those warnings from Grizzly fans are ringing true for this to be anything but the probability moving forward. The thing that got me is he yelled at them to "run most of the clock" or something along those lines, and they proceeded to run some elementary screen that led to nothing. That's partly their fault, but it's also not what this team should be so it's no wonder they ran it like the life just got sucked out of them. That just clearly summarized the Kings entire year up to this point. Also, as Grizz fans described his love for marginal role players, it's clear that too many of the teams shots are eventually geared towards players that should be lower level options. NBA offense should be predicated around getting shots to your difference makers, not the Matt Barnes' of the world. Sure, an open shot is a good shot but the Kings give the defense almost everything they want game in, game out. Joeger was potentially the perfect coach for Cousins but now he's gone, it just doesn't fit unless the Kings somehow draft the next Zbo and find better roles for the players they have or he ditches his system and goes with what fits the talent he has now.

I've been saying fire Joerger since roughly November lol. The guy is trash, just a terrible coach.
I think if we had luke Walton we would have an extra 5-10 wins this year. Thankfully for the tank we don't, but I sure as hell hope joerger isn't the coach next year.
Now I'm sure the exit interview will go as such lol
Vlade: "we want to thank joerger he's an excellent coach, what he did to improve Zach Randolph game this year has been incredible. We are excited to draft luka doncic and maintain the slowest pace next year. Big things to come with joerger"

There is no way the Kings can fire Joerger and not damage the attraction of their HC job vacancy. Not renewing Joerger's contract is the best route at this point.

The Kings can't worry about damage like that at this point. The dumpster was lit a long time ago and the fire rages on in some ways. Hopefully the coaching staff and GM group go into the offseason with a more comprehensive approach based around what makes sense. The talk of Vlade being more hands off is a bit scary because it needs to be the opposite right now. The results are the results and at some point accountability is inevitable. Next year will be the year where a lot of questions are answered because bad basketball with the possibility of tank logic being behind it won't be a factor. They have no choice but to get the most out of the the highest potential players they have because a down year asset wise is ahead. Those high drafted, higher paid, or centerpiece trade players have to start being put in a position to produce.

See I feel like they do have to worry because if league opinion is Vivek and Vlade will fire you within 1 to 2 years then id imagine joerger's replacement will be the same or worse, and at that point you have to evaluate if it's even worth moving on from Dave

In a rebuilding phase the only thing your coach can't do is royally F up and anything else you'll take. Most rebuilding squads pick from the crop of young first timer coaches anyway. And what is worse? The Kings have done about the worst thing you can do for a rebuilding squad this year. And the word on the street should be that at least Vivek and Vlade will pick all your options up early and still cut ties if they feel like it. There are plenty of coaches that will take that.

To me Joerger is far from a terrible coach. He is just inflexible.
This is an extremely unique situation where he’s been tasked to develop 10 kids and determine which of them should be part of our future. I know people are focused on wins and losses but it seems he has a concerted plan with regards to minutes...and he sticks to it no matter who’s playing well and what the score is.
If Joerger is gonna be the coach for the next 5 years and he’s gonna stick to his slow tempo grit/grind ways we should just draft Muhamad Bamba and hope he turns into Gobert.

I think everyone needs to stop freaking out over Joerger. I don't think there's any issue with him and our young guys have been developing nicely over the course of the year. Most minutes played on this team, in order, are Bogdan, Willie, Fox and Buddy. Joerger will be fine.

I don't think any of us are upset with the wins or losses. I think myself and other Kings fans are upset how slow our pace is, how we are the 3rd best team in the league shooting 3s by percentage but we shoot the 3rd least in the league, how Randolph posts up iso 10-20 times a game, how we average the 2nd least points in the league only ahead of the god awful Grizzlies playing a team full of d-leaguers.
My issues are with his style not with his ability to win. We all know its a throw-away year. Its the fact that I don't see his style transitioning to wins down the line in todays NBA.

In even the best circumstances it's highly unlikely a coach remains with a team for that long. I think next year we start either seeing evidence that this was indeed a great tanking strategy or there may be a clean slate from the top down in the organization not long after. I really hope Vlade doesn't get the brunt because I think he's done as much good as bad and really don't disagree with much of what he's done with building the team. I think the signings this summer were coach favors so hopefully he learned a bit of a lesson there.

And in the end the only assets the Kings have which are the young players are playing beneath their potential in that system. The Kings have no 2019 pick so getting some shine on the young players is mandatory otherwise they better hope these coaches can "develop" superstars out of thin air.

Yup completely agree. I've said from 20 games in, switch luke Walton with joerger and Fox, Hield, Skal, and Bogdan would look like much better players.SacKingZZZ wrote:RipPizzaGuy wrote:kingjawn100 wrote:To me Joerger is far from a terrible coach. He is just inflexible.

My biggest worry is that joerger won't adapt, and 2 years from now we will have wasted the development of our young guys while continuing to sign veterans like Randolph to play joerger ball. And at that point you look much more incompetent than biting the bullet now.
The team has changed a lot since joerger was brought in. When he was here we were focused on building a team around cousins with vets like Lawson, Collison, Gay, Casspi... We no longer have that team. This is a young team and I'm not sure he would have been picked to coach this team if this was the personell when we made our decision.

Definitely disagree with you there.
Hes a smart coach. Immediately to start the year he said Deng isn't in our plans not going to waste the young guys development time on you.
Ingram - 34MPG
Ball - 33MPG
Kuzma - 30MPG
Randle 25MPG
Trill - 27MPG
Fox - 27MPG
Bogdan - 27MPG
Buddy - 24MPG
This right here says a lot. He wanted to develop his main pieces and stuck them in the fire to get better and clearly they have.
He has the Lakers scoring 109ppg with a bunch of young guys playing heavy minutes, hes got Randle playing the best basketball of his career, I attribute a lot of what Kuzma has done to him putting him in a place to succeed. He has the the Lakers at 19-12 since the new year, with a roster many thought wouldn't even hit 30 wins this season.
What makes you say hes a bad coach. Id love to hear your reasoning?

This has been a major problem. I’m sorry but these guys aren’t going to play the way Vlade’s vision is going because he is getting players that DJ simply refuses to, or can’t, get the best out of. And no it’s not for the tank!
