Kings + Bad Luck

I'm the first to rip the Kings for some of the bad decisions they've made this last decade but they also seem to be followed by a dark cloud of bad luck.
2012 - Thomas Robinson is a can't miss prospect by anyone's standards. He miraculously falls in our lap at #5 - and ends up a bust
2013 - Ben McLemore is a can't miss prospect at a position of need. He falls to us at #7 - and ends up a bust
2015 - Willie Cauley-Stein, a player with can't miss defensive skill, is drafted - his defense somehow ends up terrible
2017 - Rudy Gay contract expiring, trade deadline approaching. Kings should be able to get good value - he ruptures achilles
2018 - George Hill signed. Kings finally sign big name free agent. Steady pro - his skills seemingly erode right before our
eyes and his tenure in sac is a disaster
i can't really 'blame' the kings for any of these ^ bad outcomes.
One of the luckiest things to actually happen to us is Cousins tearing his achilles AFTER we had already gotten some value for him.

You could also see those players getting snubbed because other franchises did their homework better and knew they were no good. If Kings did their homework, they could have easily NOT taken those guys and take instead Lillard and Giannis. Alright, Giannis was missed by everyone, but Lillard was picked just one place after Robinson.
Bottom line, it's always easy to find reasons to blame the Kings, don't give up.

Lillard/TRob is purely hindsight. You can't find me one person who at the time thought Lillard (out of Weber State) was a better option than Robinson who had just dominated the Big 12. TRob had been projected to go 2 until he fell right into our laps. Kings fans thought they hit the lottery.

Yeah I can. His name rhymes with Peff Getrie.
Fun fact: Petrie wanted to take Lillard but was worried we wouldn't have a starting PF because Thompson was headed into free agency. Needless to say it was a stupid pick for stupid reasons.
Personally? I was never a fan of Robinson or McLemore. Robinson looked like another Adam Morrison: a player who wasn't that great when he was young, but learned to dominate after he was more mature than all the other players. That's a huge red flag. McLemore? I remember watching him in the tournament and nothing jumped out to me that he was a good player. He just looked good doing everything (athletic, prototypical size, great looking shot).
For the McLemore draft I remembered sort of liking McCollum, but I also LOVED Trey Burke. Shows how much I know, right? For The Robinson draft I *think* I liked Drummond. I vaguely remember that my thinking at that time was that Cousins would never be a great rim protector because he didn't have the quick twitch athleticism necessary. I also LOVED MKG in that draft--again, shows what I know.

I was also on Trey Burke and yep MKG was someone I wanted as well. Can’t win them all.

An example of this year following the bad luck trend would be us moving up 5 spots to pick 2nd and then this ending up being a historically bad draft. Time will tell.

I think Vlade is reversing the trend.
Makes a trade **** up completely with Pappa G but pulls Bogdan out of his butt
Moves up in draft and Philly tanks for him
Moves up again.
Not a bad run.....
