Game 31 Thread - Kings (17-13) vs Wizards (12-21)
Kings host a struggling Wizards team and look to give the fanbase the best gift they can before Christmas, a win.
Things I'm looking for tonight:
1. Time 2 wake up. Huerter played well the other night in the win over the Lakers but our overall play from the 2 guard position has been in quite the slump over the most recent stretch of games. In the last ten, the 2 guards (Huerter, Monk, TD) have combined to shoot just 30.3% from deep. After an insanely hot start, we knew there would eventually be a regression to the mean but having them all slump at the same time has made things more difficult for Fox and Sabonis. If we can get two of these guys going, particularly at least one of the bench guards, that should provide the offensive spark we need.
2. Cause chaos. While Washington is fairly pedestrian in most metrics (they're somewhere in the middle of the league in almost every statistic I looked at), one thing they do excel at is taking care of the ball and limiting points off turnovers. We need the defense to make things uncomfortable for the Washington offense and get some takeaways which can lead to some transition opportunities for us. Make life easy for us and create some offense from defense tonight.
3. Keep it rollin', rook. Keegan seems to have woken up recently and looks visibly more comfortable on the floor. As others have mentioned on this board, I do think he needs to start playing with a little more physicality to really take the next step in his game but for now I will take knocking down the long balls like he has. Stringing together a run of good games should do wonders for his confidence and having Keegan playing at a high level raises the ceiling of this team considerably.

Boy this second unit without Sabonis.... fox is doing his low motor thing not leading that unit. Davis isnt good. Monk has been in the doldrums for the last month.. the backup big nonsense (refusing to play Len, and the others..)... just a conglomerate of wrong

that second unit just gave the wizards the game... this is going to be an uphill battle. but the questions posed in my initial post remain

Re: Game 31 Thread - Kings (17-13) vs Wizards (12-21)
the problem has been starting with the dropoff from Sabonis to fox, obviously fox is nowhere near the caliber of player Sabonis is, but he's not even leading the unit against backups.. this has been going on a few games this non-sabonis play stuff

Well we forced one turnover. This game is going nowhere as long as we shoot 42% from the field though. Defense needs to step it up and create some easy offense.

This game is on Fox, and he's on my watchlist now.
After the mirage of his post Halliburton play, low motor D Angelo Russell has been back.
That second unit gave the Wizards the energy/game/momentum, led by Fox having a low motor impact on that unit that has been struggling without Sabonis..
Brown has his hands full with Fox, trying to get that low motor to consistently impact winning throughout the course of a season

Lol at it being on fox. Team down by 30, Fox being aggressive with 11 free throws.
This is an embarrassing performance by the entire team. Awful defense across the board, lazy passes all game. Monk and huerter with 6 turnovers and we haven't forced any. Wizards feasting under pulling sabonis out.
Ugly ugly game

I don't think he's ever left your list lol. And to say this game is on him is laughable, the entire team has zero energy. Fox is leading all scorers for us and has 11 attempts at the line. Keegan is 1/7 from the floor, Sabonis is 3/8. The team is just flat tonight.

the game was decided in the beginning of the second quarter when the team was doing nothing but giving the wizards the mojo of the game, and the players on the kings who were doing nothing about it

How many 3s rimmed out, layups barely missed. Just terrible. Honestly shocked we aren't down 40

If we somehow did come back this one would have to be 2nd to the Tyreke Bulls game.

Re: Game 31 Thread - Kings (17-13) vs Wizards (12-21)
I think this one was penciled in as an L before the game. We were flat, gave wizards ton of confidence. Our interior defense is horrible. Their forwards completely outplayed ours.blind prophet wrote:If we somehow did come back this one would have to be 2nd to the Tyreke Bulls game.
Rui and kuzma with 49 combined. 22 of 32 from the floor. Murray and Barnes 14 pts on 21 shots.
That is the biggest difference.
This is the kinda game where I Monte needs to really look at getting a versatile 3rd forward.

Re: Game 31 Thread - Kings (17-13) vs Wizards (12-21)
2:34 Neemias Queta enters the game for Domantas Sabonis 22 22
2:34 De'Aaron Fox enters the game for Davion Mitchell
7:02 Domantas Sabonis enters the game for De'Aaron Fox 47 36
The Wizards had the momentum of the game by that time. Talking about what happens when one team has control of the game, as opposed to when the game is tied and up for grabs is IMO just a different matter. The Wizards are now playing with more confidence. Fox was 2 for 6 and 3 of 4 at the line at the time he went out. And there was a stark difference in competitive nature between the units on the court, Sabonis makes things go, Fox... Yes, the rest of the bench has been bad, but it seems without leadership as well and Fox was NOT aggressive in those minutes. Sabonis needs to be able to come out of the game, and the play without him is now a repetitive pattern.
Sabonis is a top 10-15 player now that makes the entire team go, and no one is in his vicinity of impact IMO, this could get ugly if he at any point misses time.
This was a bit of a bummer, and parts of this team drive me crazy, but I guess the year has been positive so far.

I missed the game tonight but according to this thread I think it's time to cue up the "oh no we suck again" meme

No it wasn’t. It was decided at the start of the game.
I do agree partially this (and other W/L) are on Fox for the exact thing he has done tonight. The Sacramento Kings won’t make the POs unless he punches teams in the mouth in the first quarter. He can sit back and talk smack to Kuzma after he has done so.
If not, STFU and play. Sick of this team being removed, yes from the top down. Stop talking about Keegan getting 1 board as a SF.
Start talking about this team has been smacked in the mouth by every EC team. That’s not to say they have lost every game, They’re ALL soft, not just Keegan. But let’s be lazy and blame a friggin rookie.
Why is it that you can LITERALLY tell what players are going to light the Kings up every game because they always have?
Let's chill out on some of the language.

Re: Game 31 Thread - Kings (17-13) vs Wizards (12-21)
Beaten by a smarter team which used a good game plan to exploit known weaknesses. Sac needs reinforcement at forward at a minimum, and neither Fox nor Huerter are really good defenders. Brown/Monte have to figure out that best way for the team to become more intense defensively, as when your 3 and 4 are being beaten all night it makes it hard to win.
