Game 34 Thread - Kings (18-15) vs Jazz (19-18)

Post#1 » by codydaze » Fri Dec 30, 2022 10:17 pm

The homestand comes to an end tonight against a Jazz team that has taken the league by surprise.

Things I'm looking for tonight:
1. It starts on defense. Utah comes into the game tonight ranked 4th in PPG and 5th in ORTG which is right around where we are as well. On both sides of the ball it is a pretty even matchup tonight with only a difference of 0.3 in Net Rating between the two teams. In what could definitely become a shootout, we need to do all that we can to prevent that by locking in on the defensive end and stringing together multiple stops. We've seen what can happen when guys go cold, we can't afford to try and simply outscore teams every night and especially against a high powered offense like Utah has.

2. Battle of the boards. Utah takes a lot of three point attempts (4th most in the league) and as you might expect, they are also one of the top offensive rebounding teams. What's interesting is that while Utah and Sacramento are almost dead even in REB% (49.9% vs 50.0%, respectively), their strengths are inverted with Utah being a strong offensive rebounding team and Sacramento being the top defensive rebounding team (shoutout to the Ox). The guy to watch tonight will be Jarred Vanderbilt, he's an athletic big that cleans up the glass well. If we can contain him and limit Utah's second chance points we will be in a better position to get the win.

3. Protect this house. The homestand hasn't exactly been what we were hoping for thus far. Looking at the games prior to starting this stretch, most were hoping for at least a 4-2 finish but now we are hoping to finish it even at 3-3. Our home record has still been solid this year at 10-7 but protecting homecourt is essential when looking to end the playoff drought. Let's take care of business and give another sold out crowd in Golden 1 a show. LIGHT THE BEAM!

there are a lot of boos I do agree with (buddy/bagley for starters), but why the tepid response for Gay? I thought he put in a solid shift here, or maybe I read that crowd response wrong (wasnt the boos buddy/bagley received just appeared a tepid negative).

Domas squinting there with the hand on that one play, not what I like to see.

from what I heard I hesitate to call it a boo... it was a light negative from my vantage, but someone would need to correct me

Big 4th quarter by Fox and Huerter. The team battled. Good stuff.
