Game 37 Thread - Kings (20-16) vs Hawks (17-20)

Post#1 » by codydaze » Thu Jan 5, 2023 2:37 am

Kings start a four game homestand against the struggling Atlanta Hawks.

Things I'm looking for tonight:
1. Stay sharp. On the second night of a back to back after traveling back from Utah, this is a game that could easily slip away. Hopefully the guys ate their Wheaties and come out sharp. Tonight is a night we especially cannot afford to dig ourselves into a hole early and expect to claw out. We haven't had a wire to wire win in a while so hopefully tonight is the night with an energized Golden 1 and coming off a big win in Utah.

2. Attack the rim. Atlanta will be without their man in the middle tonight, Clint Capela, who is the type of player who typically gives us problems. They won't have quite as much size down low tonight with Okongwu and John Collins so we should look to capitalize and challenge them at the rim. That should open up the rest of the floor for us.

3. Bench mob bat signal. While Davion has been providing some great defense off the bench, we only had 8 points from the second unit in last night's win. That's just not going to cut it, we can't rely on huge nights from Fox and Sabonis every night and need the bench to provide some offense. Monk has been struggling again and Holmes has had some rough moments as well. I'd like to see us give Metu another look as this is a matchup he should do well in.

Also, is tonight the night we finally get to 5 games over .500? The schedule lightens up a bit with LAL, Orlando and then Houston twice coming up so a win tonight would be big. We could realistically be looking at 24-17 at the midway point...

Nice to see TD get some minutes. We need someone to step up. Game is tight right now but we've had a lot of missed opportunities already.

Was wondering how it was gonna be. Crazy storm/flood warnings, was worried people wouldn't show tonight!

I get that coach is playing matchups with TD/KZ, but at this point I'd rather bench Holmes and run the both.

Lyles - KZ - TD - Monk - Mitchell

What backup centers are we worried about? Are we really concerned lyles can't guard frank Kaminsky?

At some point we have to decide we want to play defense.
