Playoffs R1 Discussion Thread - Kings vs Warriors

Post#1 » by codydaze » Mon Apr 10, 2023 2:08 am

We are officially matched up with the Warriors for Round 1, starting with the primetime slot for game 1! Game 1 will be Saturday, April 15th at 5:30 pacific on ABC.

I figured it would be nice to have a single discussion thread for each playoff round (since we are definitely playing in multiple rounds  ).

Of all the potential people we could play the Warriors were the team that scared me the most.

not a cool matchup at all, odds wise or playoff ticket wise (we were +225 and warriors -275 last I saw).

Thanks Clippers for beating the Suns with your starters, hope you get swept by the Suns

Warriors' fan here, just wanted to pop in to congratulate you guys on a great year. I was pulling for your team and Coach Brown all season. It's really cool that both the Dubs and Kings are both in the postseason together and it's the first time they have gone head to head in the playoffs. I respect your squad and think the series could go either way. Good luck!

Most scary team for the Kings were the Warriors. Klay seems to love to play against the Kings. Dude can go supernova -- along with Curry. A significant amount of Warriors fans will definitely make the trip to Sacramento.

I don't doubt the G1C will be rockin' tho. Other than the Lakers, the Warriors/Kings matchup will bring great energy throughout the series.

I'm excited to watch. Kind of tempting to go and buy G1 tickets but I honestly I'm gonna stay home and watch the game here lol

I'm actually fine with this matchup, it's grown on me the last week. Obviously I wanted the Clippers, Pelicans, or self destructing Wolves. But I really didn't want the Lakers or Phx. Lakers will get help from the refs, and Phx is winning the west.

This is going to be a fun series. Sac in their first return take on the rivals from the Bay. The defending champions. We have no expectations to win this series, we weren't even supposed to be here, and we are facing the team with the most experience in the league.

If we get hot, I expect us to take some games. If we take it to 6 and lose it will still be a win and great experience to keep the guys hungry. If we win the series, well we just knocked off Steph Curry and the defending world champions.

PHX is not winning the west. I have seen the future.

Fox should be relatively solid in a playoff setting, as he’s Uber talented on his game that gets hampered with motor. Shouldn’t be any motivational issues with first playoffs and his d on curry is obviously a key to the series

This is my thought process as well with this series. Going to be a roller coaster ride for sure and hopefully, we can improve our play at home.
If they match up similarly a couple of things.
Offense:
Keegan needs to post up Steph
Be strong with the ball, it's going to be physical
Run at every opportunity

Defense:
Stay attached to Curry at all times, particularly after misses
Don't bite on pump fakes
Watch back door cuts

This is how I would match up
Fox v Steph
Huerter v Klay
Barnes v Wiggins (not sure on his availability)
Keegan v Dray
Sabonis v Looney

About the only thing I can say about the draw, is I'm glad its not the Lakers, and the Kings FO may have felt the same way with the dubious complete pull on the 2nd to last game when we were still in 2nd seed contention (though other things could have been at play with the permutations, like still hoping the Clippers would have won)

10 of their last 12. They have good depth around LeBron/AD now.

The Warriors have a pitiful away record and will play our uptempo game. The Lakers would have just dictated the pace.

I think the game vs TWolves proved the Lakers are no threat whatsoever. The refs would get them a win, but they are definitely no match for this Kings squad.

The overtime between the Lakers and T Wolves was terrible basketball. Kings must try to play up tempo in the play offs as a half court game will not suit this team as it currently composed.

Refs really dictated that 2nd half or Minnesota probably runs away with it.

Lakers shot 13 fts before Conley finally got those last 3 in the 2nd half. They called a BS 4th foul on Towns forcing him out of the game. They let the Lakers hack Minnesota at the rim at least 4x during the 3rd-4th quarter without giving them a single call. Lebron clearly should have fouled out.

Minnesota definitely didn't do themselves any favors. But they were playing short handed, Ant seemed definitely hurt, and Towns isn't the guy to close out a physical playoff game.

This was the reason I didn't want the Lakers. If you keep it somewhat close, the refs can and will get involved without consequences.

Agreed 100% abiut not seeing the Lakers.

Last night proved in the fourth and OT (and the phantom fifth foul on KAT when AD played for his Oscar) that the league wants Lebron in at least until the second round. At that point there is enough star power in the younger group to carry things through the finals. But we would have been entirely shafted against the Lakers. Let Memphis run the bell out of their old tired asses.

As for our matchup I feel very good about it. Scoring wise we are better or at worst equal. We have shown our ability to bring a ninth ranked defense on the road and therefore we simply need to focus on stepping g that up at home and not rely on simply out scoring a team that can do that right with us. We have a much bigger advantage with Mike Brien knowing Kerr’s game plan and players than they do because Mike was not the coach there but the assistant implementing Kerr’s plan not his own.

The subs have a far higher risk of burnout and injury due to much greater average age. That becomes a big factor in a seven game series. We are younger and deeper at this point. I don’t see Wiggins as anything close to “ready to play” at a playoff level after missing two plus months and his head has not been right yet this year.

An interesting take is my girl and her uncle who are lifelong Dubs fans and know their team better than any of us. Both are very well informed big time basketball fans as well. They are not at all happy about this matchup. They wanted ANYONE but the Kings in the first round. They feel their team has caught an ennui and expectation and that their younger players are not at all ready for this or capable of giving that extra needed to advance.

I felt good about the matchup until I started reading the lines. It's still around -285 for the Warriors, +230 for us.

https://sportsbook.draftkings.com/leagues/basketball/nba?category=playoff-series-props

those people do it for a living. Then the GB board of impartial users had the Warriors winning at over a 2/3 rate last I checked.

All 6 of these prognosticators from sportingnews have warriors

Excited for this Kings-Warriors matchup. This is the first time I can remember when both teams were pretty good - either the Kings were great and the Warriors were terrible, the Warriors were great and the Kings were terrible, or both were terrible. Here's to a good series! - not like that hot garbage between the T-Wolves and Lakers last night.

Regarding style of play, the playoffs seem to force you into a half court game, the defensive intensity is amped up so much. While both teams like to run, both teams will also need to be able to execute their offenses in the half court if they want to advance.

I think the difference between it slowing down in the POs and the way the Kings have played is it's not run and gun. They are fast paced in the half court. That's where the Kings get a lot of their pace from. I see it translating somewhat into the POs for this reason. The trick is it isn't sustainable for whole games. The Warriors certainly can play like this as well so they are well versed to not only playing this way, but knowing how to slow it down. Should be fun to watch how it plays out.

Assistant Coach Luke Loucks says that the Kings plan to play at a pace "never seen before." That certainly sparks my interest! They can run Golden State out of the gym, so to speak.

Thats our angle to win. The Warriors defense this season took a nosedive, they are a little below average now

Return to Sacramento Kings
