Excellent addition. The people that are scared about the fit need to realise a) how bad the offense was for stretches last season. DDR will help eliminate that and b) in the POs we already saw what this offense does and if you're only relying on the 3 then it makes it difficult to win a series. DDR is the best mid range player in the game, not named Durant and importantly, he gets to the FT line...and makes them. Fox was at 5.7FTA and Sabonis 5.1FTA. DDR had 7.7FTA per game

I like the addition for you guys. But I have a reservation - what will your defence be like? I dont know much about your roster, but note that Sabonis isnt a rim protector

Keon Ellis is a fantastic 3&D guy we managed to develop from the G league as a UDFA, Keegan has turned into a plus defender, and Fox has had a defensive renaissance as well. Towards the tail end of the last season, we were a top-five defense in the league... Just happened at the same time as we fell off a cliff offensively by losing Monk and Huerter.

It's a fair question and one that I think is TBD.
Sabonis is much better defender than he gets credit for. Although yes you're right he is not a rim protector.

IMO ideally that is where the true upgrade needs to take place. At the PF position that can also backup Sabonis.
I would be trying like anything to get a Stewart or Portis with Huerter/assets.

On the perimeter Fox, Keon Ellis, Keegan are all decent. That is where Carter would have helped too and hopefully at the end of the season he can still.

The task, and with the squad as is it isn't an easy one, is to maximise the offense and defense to allow for the non rim protection and DDR, Monk, Huerter minutes. The offense only guys need to be staggered, but there are only 5 spots on the court.
Lyles is passable as a defender against backup PFs and as a small ball 5 (Brown went away from that last season after it worked extremely well the season before) and Len showed rim protection when he got a chance, but he isn't going to play much being behind Sabonis and they can't play together so it doesn't really account for much.

DeMar is a winning Ironman type player that should bring a great mentality to the locker room. I didn’t like the swap with the Wemby/Spurs and thought negative Barnes/Huerter should’ve at least been paid off with 2nds, but Spurs had a monopoly on the cap. I think DeMar can be worth it, and can raise the ceiling of our team

Did I want something more than a 35 year old to sink my teeth in this summer? Yes, but I guess it takes two to tango. Who knows what the other teams were asking

Man, I just don't think these guys are it. Stewart has proven to not be a real floor spacing option. Playing him with another C has categorically not worked in Detroit.

And I never got where people got the idea that Portis is some kind of asset to anyone's defense.

The more I dig on Stewart the more he is looking like too much of a 5 TBH, for this team anyway, so I was a little gung ho on that one.
Portis I stand by. He might not be a top shelf rim protector or anything, but they are so few and far between in the NBA. IMO you would need to draft one and then work on their shot to the point they could play with Sabonis.
Anyway Portis is the kind of team defender and glue guy on the defensive end that would make life a lot easier for this squad and he can knock down the 3 along with the mid range. That would be important, even more so with DDR on the team now.

I don’t think people realize just how good we can be. A full year of Keon Ellis getting the minutes he deserves and Fox + Sabonis getting easier buckets. Hell, Keegan freaking Murray is going to be wide open at times.

Basically what I’m saying is, get ready to light that Beam more than ever before.

DeRozan is 34 years old?

Attack the rim wing slashers do not age well. DeRozan the prince can turn into a pumpkin or a frog at any time now.

Harrison Barnes might be able to bring the Spurs championship experience and leadership that the now established Kings no longer need.

35.

Attack the rim wing slashers do not age well, if they mainly rely on quick first step and athleticism. That does not define DeRozan though, he basically relies on footwork and skills.

Thus there are no signs of a drop-off at year 16 - either statistically or via eye-test:
