Mike Brown Out As Head Coach
Feel like this is worthy of its own thread for discussion. The first domino falls, we may give this group another month to course correct but a fire sale may be on the horizon if things don't turn around.

Brown Fired
Well it's about damn time. Mike Brown isn't the only thing wrong with the Kings, however he is THE main one IMO.
From his defensive schemes to his horrid rotations and dog housing players for no reason at all, namely Keon, just shows there is a lot missing in his ability.
Anyway, its clear Brown simply isn't cut out to be a long term coach. Maybe he's great at getting teams to hit early on?
From season 2 just making the play in and then this year it's not acceptable. Now we are sitting here without a clear successor instead of having Jordi.
Not far behind him is Monte McNair. He can't escape criticism from this season.

In the end, Mike Brown returned to the controlling, alienating Coach his previous players warned us about.

Re: Mike Brown Out As Head Coach
Not surprised at all.
Brown was one of the main problems here in Sacramento.
That said, I don’t think firing the coach will help fix the issue. There should be a total tear down of the roster. Trading Fox should be next imo.

Doug getting the interim role. I figured it would probably be between him and Triano. I think Doug is definitely a guy that the players will rally behind.

With Doug, the roster will receive an initial bump of play before reverting back to their flaws.
This roster and the players are still an issue.
The Kings are stupid if they think just firing Brown and replacing him will solve everything.

Re: Mike Brown Out As Head Coach
Bad offseason moves didn't but was never really high on Brown in the first place. The circus show continues.
Need a full blow-up rebuild but knowing Vivek and Co that'll never happen so we are just stuck where we are at. Ceiling of play-in team floor of 12th seed.

100%. If Monte thinks this move will solve everything then he needs to go too. We need to seriously consider moving Derozan and get some length. Need to get back to the higher pace and DHO game that made this team so successful two years ago.

Re: Mike Brown Out As Head Coach
First off, I want Fox and some others gone, and if Vivek is meddling and doesn’t want to trade Fox and other roster construction, which this may imply…
The players need to be dealt with
Brown, I have mixed feelings on. Thought he was one of the few things right about this org, and did well the previous years, but if we’re complaining about essentially the roster sans Domas and somewhat Monk, and the team is much better on paper than in record….

Re: Mike Brown Out As Head Coach
I preface this by saying obviously the team needs changes. Length, length, length.
Outside of that, this gives Doug 16 games prior to February to see what minor tweaks he makes and whether the team gets out of this funk.
Personally, I would be putting Monk back to the bench and starting Keon.
Put Devin Carter in the squad straight away. Giving him 10-12mpg right from the start doesn't hurt and his fitness won't be an issue playing 3 x 4min stretches.
Start Trey Lyles (what is there to lose?) and move Keegan to the SF position. DDR to the bench too. Rotating at the 4/5 position to be around Keegan/Lyles/Sabonis/Jones and Crowder as a backup plan.
Fox/Keon/Keegan/Lyles/Sabonis
Carter/Monk/Huerter/DDR/Jones
Anyway, just a thought for Doug and he gets his chance to put his mark on the team with this many games to go.

Doug seems docile with lack of personality, not sure he's HC material...
will be interesting to see what happens with that in the offseason

Not sure I would characterize Doug as having anything close to a lack of personality lol.

I'm a fan of in your face ball busting types, as they tend to get the most lemonade out of the lemons.. the ones who are patrolling the sidelines on foot and a 6th man on the court. Doug seems the stay on the bench and let the players go type

Re: Mike Brown Out As Head Coach
Maybe Brown saw the writing on the wall and called out Fox for that last play vs. the Pistons.
Not sure there are too many coaches who can criticize the face of the franchise players and survive too long.

I like the idea of DDR to the bench instead. DDR as the focal point of the second unit. I’ll try that first before trading him imo.
I have always said that they should return back to the offensive principles of beam team 1.0
It was stupid of them to move away from that.
This team has a cap or ceiling on what they can do defensively. Might as well optimize the offensive if you can’t defend lol

Re: Mike Brown Out As Head Coach
he sucks but he's clearly the fallguy since Monte is trying to save his own neck. The owner is too stupid to realize it's mostly Monte's fault and that coaching matters very little in the NBA. But if he wants to pay guys then fire them so they can sit at home and collect for doing nothing, that's on him. I. imagine they're hoping a coaching change can turn the team around in time to make Fox happy before the trade deadline. And if we're not, they'll move him before he starts making a stink and the return gets lesser and lesser. Until Monte is gone, we won't be true contenders anytime soon. I would say owner, but you can't fire owners.

Oh I didn't want Brown patrolling the sidelines for much longer, but you're 100% right here. Monte is trying to save his own neck. It's the NBA. That's their slogan.

Re: Mike Brown Out As Head Coach
Raptors fan chiming in.
I do think Brown deserved SOME blame, but he didn't need to be let go. With that being said, what's done is done, yall gotta move forward.
1) If I was the GM/Coach I'd highly think about moving Derozan to the bench and try to sell him on how it's not a demotion. Many great shooting guards had to take a backseat for the better of the team(Ginobli, Wade). He's still going to get his shots attempts and minutes. If he's not willing to buy in, trade him for a 3+D forward, and a back up point guard to help round out the roster.
2) A back up point guard, and 3+D wing, and a back up big man. Trade Huerter, you have too many shooting guards(Monk, Ellis, Huerter). I like Monk's ability on offense, and Ellis has shown he can hit open shots and play defense, Huerter is the odd man out. You need some bigger wings who can play defense, high energy bigs, and a back up point guard who can give Fox some relief and run the offense.
Some names I'd target
Finney-Smith
Zach Collins
Drew Eubanks
Caleb Martin
Cody Martin
Andre Drummond
Jevon Carter
Jose Alvarado
Harrison Barnes
Bruno Fernando
Shake Milton
Kyle Lowry (reunite w/Derozan)
Fox/Milton
Monk/Ellis
Finney-Smith/Derozan
Murray/Lyles
Sabonis/Eubanks
Is a very well rounded team, and I do believe you guys have the assets to get some of these names. I like the roster your team has built, it does need some tweaking, but the potential is there, and it doesn't need to be torn down.

Think it was pretty stock standard. None of the three guys seem too cut up about it TBH.
