Game 51: Kings (25-25) @ Blazers (22-29)

I'm still in the trenches with this newborn but the game threads are back, thanks for hanging in there with me
Kings head up to Portland on the second night of a B2B against a hot Blazers team and the trade deadline now in the rear view. Valanciunas is available today and should come in handy against the stable of big bodies Portland has.

I’m here for it Jonas
I was a Len fan back before he broke down, but we see the difference in a true backup big

Yeah I'm on board to start Keon with DeRozan embracing the 6th man role.
Edit: who can play Small Forward lol?

What...Is Monk trying to earn my trust as our starting PG?

Late game collapse. Clearly the players aren't on the same page- which is expected.

I hate to be a downer but I'm ready to blow this team up.
I just don't see how you can reasonably fix it.
We have no forwards, we play no defense, and we have no point guard.
This is going to be a really ugly last 30 games

Pre Deadline Kings vs Post Deadline Kings
The roster is as flawed as ever and expecting Jonas Valanciunas and Jake LaRavia to fix those flaws is just not reasonable. I was always against Monk as a starting PG, I just don't see it, there's more to being a point guard than being able to run the pick and roll. The trio of Monk/Lavine/Demar are going to continue to take turns on offense and not get Keegan involved. I don't care how they figure it out, but Keon has got to be more featured and should be playing in closing lineups.

I said the same man. Everyone was talking about how Monk was the one getting everyone involved and was a better facilitator than Fox. Monk makes sabonis tick, but outside of that he's out of control. He is a 6th man. We paid him to be that.
I'm looking around the league, and I don't see a savior at pg

Bench them both man. Start LaRavia and Keon. IDC. This a new team, Doug needs to forget about egos and contract. Play guys who actually want to play defense.
Monk - Keon - LaRavia - Keegan - Sabonis
Lets develop keon and keegan. this is a lost season

Better than the first one, for sure.
Only about 5 teams probably were going to mess with Portland on a back to back tonight with how they have been
Zach and Jonas have been off. I’d bench Lyles and make DeMar 6th man. Keon needs to start

Having LaRavia over a non nba Lyles may have even been the difference tonight with the starters largely plus against a hot team
It will be nice to just play a 9 man rotation of nba quality starting from now

Again, if our season hinges on Jake LaRavia then we are simply not a very good team. And I like LaRavia a lot but expecting him to be the difference isn't a reasonable expectation to put on him.

Well. Welcome to the new Sacramento Kings. Where defense is optional. It used to be preached about, but then okay if you didn't. Now it's just blatant that you don't need to. And if you do play D you will get shut out of the offense, ala Keegan and Keon.
WTF is happening with this franchise? Fox said it after his Spurs debut. It's obvious now his meetings with the front office prior to the season were about getting defenders in here. They refused to do it and he lost patience. Good for him. Hope he dominates in San Antonio, and he will. Next up Keegan Murray. After that. Keon Ellis.
Honestly, this is like watching Semi Pro, only worse.
Don't take anything these guys say in a press conference, or any talk about ball period, seriously. They don't play D, they don't want to play D and they KNOW it won't make a difference to their playing time if they don't.
Now I'm pointing the finger at Doug. Monte put this team together, fair enough, but if Doug wants to be the coach moving forward he needs to stamp his authority on the Kings. Bench the lot of them. Put guys in that will try on D.
As Kayte said on the broadcast (one of the few things she got right actually) is that teams grow into the coaches personality. That is happening with the Blazers. It WILL NOT do the same with the Sacramento Kings though.
None of them except Keegan and Keon show anything to be a decent defender. Zero. None. Nada.
But now you have peanuts complaining about Trey Freaking Lyles causing a Kings loss because he plays 13 minutes. Not the guys that were out there getting blown by time and time again. Not the guys that refused to close out on 3pt shots. Nah, it's the guy that came off the bench and played 13 minutes. GTFOH.

Team lost by a little
Lyle’s isn’t an nba player
LaRavia in bench punch could’ve been the difference tonight

One play stood out to me. 2nd half, Blazers have ball bottom corner. They blow by lavine with his half ass reach, blow by demar with same half ass reach, easy bucket at the basket. At that moment I called game. Cant win with these guys + no rim defense.
If I'm Doug I'd have pulled them both immediately. **** your contract. Put Crawford in and let's see what he's got. I'm gonna scream to start keon and laravia.

I would say what I want to say but your not worth a strike
Team lost by a little
Lyle’s isn’t an nba player
LaRavia in bench punch could’ve been the difference tonight
And I don’t care if he played 13 minutes
The starters were a plus despite how “bad” they looked
We lost because of the scrub bench, yet again as all season
When LaRavia comes I don’t want to see Trey in this rotation

Correct. But peanut brain will just keep making excuses. It's right there, plain as day and still, excuse after excuse. At some point it's got to sink in, but hey, at least they can give maximum effort on the offensive end. Great strategy peanut.
