Game 61: Kings (32-28) @ Nuggets (39-22)

Post#1 » by codydaze » Thu Mar 6, 2025 2:19 am

Malik Monk joins Domas on the injury report tonight so both Keon and Jonas will be in the starting unit in the mile high city as we take on the Nuggets. This will be a fight as Jokic and the Nuggets are always a tough matchup but with the wins the other teams around us in the standings have picked up lately, a win would be huge.

LaRavia I take it back. Maybe we won’t be able to retain him

Going to do my best boogie impression.

Time to have a serious conversation about sabonis and his impact on this team.

Lol

But in all seriousness it's clear that unless this team can get a big rim protecting pf finally next to sabonis, it maybe time to go in a different direction entirely. It's been so refreshing how suddenly we aren't really all that undersized when JV is starting

What in the hell was DDR doing that 2nd quarter? Sure he hit a couple late, but he almost single handily got Denver back in the game.

Overall though very good half.

Great coaching by Doug with some strategy on Jokic.
Keon Ellis into the starting line-up may just have been the injection overall though. Put Keegan and he together at the start, coupled by good team D and this team might not be too bad overall on that end.

Domas impact metrics this year have been strong , and the team started looking good before he went down, but not sure the direction… Jonas is good, he’s quality starting level
, and he’s turning 33. If we had a time machine, or could get a younger version of him, maybe we could debate the direction. I don’t see any in the league available or how to for sure draft one.

I will say though, this is what happens when a play takes all the shots in a very specific ISO ball situation. Everyone else doesn't know what to do. Yet look at the first quarter. 42 points and ball movement.

I'm not sure what the answer to the Malik less question was tonight... Denver is a tough opponent. Playing them basically even and being up most the night was positive.. the bench was weak.. so I think Demar off the bench while monk/keon starts with Zach

Demar been playing well recently, but that iso stuff taking over this game... may be better suited off the bench

Refs did not help us at all tonight but, yeah, the Demar iso game is going to be live by it/die by it for better or worse. I think this is where having a real PG out there would really help, could help dictate the game and keep the ball moving when it starts to get stale.

This loss is ALL on DDR. As I've mentioned. Most selfish ball player I've ever seen. Completely put the Kings out of sync on offense, which hey, is all good when you're hitting, but then when you make it a 3 quarter ISO fest and take 32 shots for the entire game, you better get more than 35.

Please everyone, go back and watch this game. Watch the amount of times DDR fake close outs, gets fake caught up in a screen, doesn't get a hand up, fails to make a basic rotation. You can accept some of that when he is hitting, and for the most part he has been. BUT it's clear as day he took this win away from the Kings. Worst loss of the season. Maybe a little recency bias on my behalf, but good god.

And I don't buy this is on the refs. Sure they missed some, but they missed some for Denver too. Let's not forget that.

His D was bad tonight... his game might be better suited off the bench but he has a lot of gravity on o still

It's just going to continue though, it's like fitting the same sized square into a circle. DDR doesn't fit winning basketball. Period.
His scoring can be gaudy, yes absolutely. He just threw this game tonight for the Kings. Absolutely threw it. Just to score as much as he possibly can.
I was surprised Lavine even got to 16 shots because it felt like he was being really hesitant. But maybe it was the fact his last 3 or 4 shots simply were have to heaves almost.

I think there are a couple of you guys who are, focused on defense.. If your point of view is pulling your hair out over his primarily offensive game because he doesn't play D, I understand.. but the guy is a microwave.. He has offensive gravity and has been ok in the clutch. but on the bench I think you could see it thrive more in the coming years.. There is less D and organization off the bench playing with and against bench players.
