Re: Kings hiring Scott Perry as new GM
According to Sam Amick on 1140 this morning:
Prepare for more years of misery.
- Monte didn't want to fire Mike Brown. DIdn't want to do a press conference because it wasn't his decision.
- Didn't want Derozan in the offseason, Vivek was the driving force behind that.
- Monte has not wanted Doug Christie as coach the entire time. Doug is a Vivek guy.
- Vivek wants to give Zach Lavine an extension this summer.
- Domas and Derozan's agents want them out of Sacramento.
Prepare for more years of misery.

Monte doesn't get a pass by spreading a narrative after this.
By all accounts he was the draft guy. Why the hell do you continue to draft guards if Vivek is going to handcuff you during FA? Go out and draft Ware or Da Silva or instead of Davion get us Murphy or Jalen Johnson. Or don't trade our pick to dump Holmes just to give Sabonis an early extension. Monte had so many chances even if Vivek was the main one pulling the strings.
The harsh reality is everyone involved sucks. Monte sucks, Vivek, Wilcox, Matina. The team has a stench that surrounds the organization. Vivek needs to be forced to sell.

And to add to that, what an absolute clown show or an organization. This move was clearly pre-determined probably pre-deadline. So you allow Monte, or Wilcox or whoever the hell was pulling the strings to trade Fox early and then we get stuck with LaVine. They should have just at a minimum played the season out then listened to the new GM's thoughts.

I don't disagree and definitely don't absolve Monte of a lot of the bad decisions he made but I think this season in particular there were some direct orders coming from Vivek. I think a lot of that was impatience on Vivek's part that Monte wasn't doing enough and I can totally get behind that but Monte's whole MO was flexibility and patience but everything we did this summer was totally the opposite.
100% agree that Monte failing to get the wings we needed is on him though. Full stop.

Ya for sure, well you had two guys who made zero sense together.
Vivek has zero patience, and Monte is building a team with the intention to go all in once Harden, Lebron, KD, Kawhi, and Jokic retire lol. Match made in heaven.

Lol I do think Monte had a good eye for talent, the Hali pick, I'm still a big believer in Keegan, I think Devin Carter can be a high level role player, plus he found guys like Keon/Isaac Jones but he just didn't have the ability to put together a cohesive roster.
Just praying Scott Perry gets autonomy to do things his way.

Yikes all the way around
I especially agree that I wish Mike Brown were still the coach
DeRozan is an interesting thing… He has talent but no fit in the starting lineup. I assumed Monte and Mike Brown (I remember Brown was supportive in the summer) had went over tape on how DeRozan WOULD accentuate the starters than Vivek playing 2k
Even as a guy who relatively supports LaVine amongst Kings fans, he has no business being extended on his current deal
Vivek chasing away Monte/Brown duo which I favored and way too involved, my hate for him as an owner deepens
And Domas post trade and playin play has greatly diminished my fervor for him though I still would allow him to start the year with a new coach or god forbid Christie

I disagree. If this was always going to happen then Vivek wouldn't have left McNair in charge to preside over trading the franchise player, Fox. Seems to me that Vivek expected that Fox being unhappy and wanting out, due to the team being what it was, was McNair's problem to fix and he let him with the caveat that if you screw this up and we fail to make the playoffs than you'll be fired. As the season progressed and that looked likely, he began courting Perry who is well-respected with a solid track record. Maybe Perry was putting his name out there in circles hoping for another chance and Vivek didn't want to wait so pounced as soon as we were eliminated knowing the next G.M. has his hands full and needs to begin preparing for a very busy off-season. Whether it's a rebuild or not. Whether Sabonis demands a trade or not. We've got a lot of work to do.

these always sound like PR hits against Vivek by fired coaches and G.M.s using Amick as the mouthpiece. There's a very real possibility little to none of this is true.

Re: Kings hiring Scott Perry as new GM
Did Perry have much of a role with the Knicks on their current roster or he was replaced before they made the moves which led to this roster?
Often GMs who fail don't get more NBA front office jobs. For instance, it'll be interesting to see if McNair gets near another GM job. Can he at least be Asst. GM or Director of Personnel or something like that?
Kings looked like they were on a good trajectory after Brown took over. But he was mainly a defensive coach and that team, as good as they were, were offense, little defense.
Yeah going guard-heavy for years in the draft probably hurt the team, but passing up Luka for Bagley is probably very hard to recover from.
Speaking of which, did I hear that Vlade is hanging around the club?

not since Leon Rose came in the fold. He was Leon's admin for a little while until his contract expired. The only direct move he was responsible for was drafting Mitch. Other ones were definitely indirect.

Re: Kings hiring Scott Perry as new GM
From what I hear Perry sounded a bit authoritative at the press, as if he was empowered
I didn’t necessarily like the hire. I loved the Monte hire where Vivek hired a third party firm to come up with an appointee critically, and Perry doesn’t have a solid enough background. Wish Vivek went the firm route again to analytically comb for potential candidates
We’ll see who is charge with the coaching situation, if Doug stays or not. Hopefully Scott has the wherewithal to bring in his own guy if the situation calls for it

Perry has pretty impressive experience and going by his press conference he has complete autonomy and will be conducting interviews for head coaches so he isn't being saddled with Doug. I kinda think McNair also had this autonomy and Vivek is being blamed because fired coaches and GMs use Amick as a mouthpiece to establish narratives on their way out. I don't think Vivek meddles any more than other owners.

That may be a bit kind to Vivek but hopefully the backlash has seeped into his brain by now and he’s learned
