Kevin Johnson to run for Mayor
Kevin Johnson will announce Wednesday evening that he will challenge incumbent Heather Fargo in the Sacramento mayor's race, Johnson's campaign officials confirmed.

Johnson, a Sacramento landowner and developer who was an all-star basketball player at the University of California and with the Phoenix Suns in the NBA, founded St. HOPE, the nonprofit organization that runs Sacramento Charter High School. He has until 5 p.m. Friday to submit nomination papers to the City Clerk's Office.

Johnson will make his official announcement at 5 p.m. at the Guild Theater in Oak Park, campaign sources said.

Fargo is seeking her third term as mayor in the June 3 election.

Interesting. I'm sure he would be a big ally for the Kings in their push for a new stadium.

Good, I can't stand Fargo, personally. KJ and Arnold in the office together....only in California!

Not a huge fan of this

Although every time i talked to Kevin Johnson he seemed like a genuine nice guy (he's the head of my old charter school) i've heard things that make me not like him

He can't be any worse than Heather Fargo. She took what was already a poorly developed city and made it worse. 8 years and she hasn't accomplished anything worth mentioning.

I don't know much about KJ's leadership skills or anything like that, but he has done some good things for the city. Oak Park may still not be the best place in town, but it's a lot better than it used to be and KJ has played a part in that.

If it's between Heather and him, I would definitely vote KJ.

I hope KJ wins. Too bad we passed on him for Kenny Smith all those years ago...

Seriously though, he can't be worse than Fargo and he'd probably be an ally for the Kings if the thing with Cal Expo doesn't work out or they need financial help. He's done some nice things and I'd like to see him get a chance.
