Could we pull a Keith Van Horn/Mavs with AJ or LoWright?

This got me wondering. This offseason if a star wants a trade, could we do that whole sign and trade thing like Dallas did?

Well the big thing with KVH was that the Mavs brought him out of retirement to do the S&T. That's not the case with Wright or AJ this summer (at least I have not heard that either are looking to retire). We can still work with them over the summer to include in a S&T deal. But they would have to agree to be part of the deal (I'm sure they could be up for it) AND the team they would go to would have to want them (don't think they are really that hot of a commodity).

Okay thanks man. I know they individually aren't hot commodities but they could be big expirings for some teams out there right? Is there a limit on how much we could S&T them for?

If an opportunity rises up in the off season then, yes, they might be used, but if not, they'll get the minimum from someone, centers and vet PG are wanted in this league.

How could they be "big expirings" in a trade. We can't trade their current expiring deals this summer because their contracts will have already expired (not sure if that's what you were meaning). Sure, I guess it is theoretically conceivable that we could just resign them to 1 year deals. But there's really not much incentive for them to do that...especially if their agents could work multi-year deals for them via free agency. I guess it COULD happen, but it just seems highly unlikely that everyone would agree to make it happen (unless there was a lot of desperation on many fronts).

The general perception is that AJ and Wright are too old and has done too little to command multi year deals, of course if they could land any, they won't take part of this, anyway it's a long shot, but the possibility is there technically.

Well yeah, I am talking about re-signing them to big 1 year deals. Could we do that? The Mavs S&Ted KVH to a big 1 year deal to put the Kidd trade through. I think it could be a good way to get a star.

In theory, yes, we can sign them to big 1 yr deals as part of a S&T. In reality, though, there's probably a better chance of Ron Paul becoming President.

It's too bad he doesn't have a chance cuz he's kinda badass but the media wanted McCain for the Republicans and Obama or Hillary for the Democrats. If you can't get any exposure you can't win basically IMO.
But it sounds like Indiana is going to purge their team. IIRC they wanted Brad back at the deadline. I might see if they'd do a deal of Miller, AJ re-signed, and our pick for JO. Beno/Martin/Artest/JO/Spence would be a badass team with pretty much no weaknesses and I think JO just needs to be on a good team again and be revitalized like how Gasol was.

It actually seems like a viable option. AJ has played like crap so far (so a multi-year deal is unlikely), and Wright seems pretty close to done, so it's not like they would have other options. I don't see Petrie doing though. It just doesn't seem like something he would do.

If artest and JO can get along that is a nice looking linup. If Brad has the same kind of year he did this year he would still start and cisco, salmons, douby, and spencer (SAR?) would all be good off the bench if they continue to develop this offseason.
