What if....

....what if the Kings got a top 3 pick in the draft(spedifically 1 or 2). Does that put us back into the thick of things in the playoff picture in the west?

I'd say petrie take Rose. I think he has more STAR potential and a Rose/Martin backcourt would be lethal for the next decade.

Keeping things 'as is' and re-signing Beno for the MLE a LOVE our roster(almost - if that damned Kenny Thomas' contract would expire.) Our two 2nd round picks would round out the roster...I think that team is good enough
Kings:
C: Brad Miller, Spencer Hawes, Shelden Williams
PF: SAR, Mikki Moore, Kenny Thomas
SF: Ron Artest, Francisco Garcia, 2nd rounder
SG: Kevin Martin, John Salmons, Quincy Douby
PG: Derrick Rose, Beno Udrih, 2nd rounder

I think that team looks GREAT on paper. Would that be just the luck this team needs to get back to the top. In 2010 we'd have the cap-space to go after a PF and have our young core being:
C: Hawes
PF: big man FA in 2010
SF: Garcia
SG: Martin
PG: Rose

Me gusta demasiado.

I don't think it puts us in the playoffs in 08-09 season, but will put us in the lower end of the playoffs 09-10, and an upper seed by 10-11.

The west is too strong for the Kings to go from 11th to top 8, but I could very well see us similiar to a Denver or Portland this year. A team that's close, but unless another team messes up, we won't make it.

However, currently at the 12th pick, its very unlikely any of this happens. However, 1 game seperates us from the 11th, 2 for the 10th, 3 for the 9th, and 4 for the 12th. "If" we happened to lose the remaing games. From the 8th pick, a shot at the top 3 or top 2 actually becomes a small small possibility.

Also, if we did end up getting Rose. I would try everything to move Miller for another lotto pick, in attempts to nab McGee/Arthur/Love type of a player.

PG: D. Rose, B. Udrih
SG: K. Martin
SF: F. Garcia
PF: J. McGee, S. Williams
C : S. Hawes

Moving Salmons, Artest, Thomas, Shareef, Moore for the perfect backup players for our team. Smells likes a ring?

Yeah, and if a Money Tree starts growing out of my right ear, I'll never have to work a day in my life again. Better chance of the money tree happening, actually.

It's possible but I doubt it, I don't think Rose is truly ready for starter's minutes on a playoff team just yet; in the future, sure.

What if, huh..

Well, if we did get a top three pick and were able to grab Rose that would be a very quick fix to our teams trouble. Adding Rose would be like adding Chris Paul to the team, and look where he took his team in his short three years. We would have to get a big like Boozer or Okafor to help us down low. If we could get that athletic big and that true leader of a PG, we would be sitting in a very good spot.

If David Stern and the NBA wanted to help out with the new Arena like they said they would, giving us one of the top 2 picks in the draft would be a great way of doing just that!

PG:Rose
SG:Kevin
SF:Artest (if he decides to stay, like his agent says)
PF: Athletic Big
C:Spencer Hawes

:jawdrop:

I doubt anything like this happens but Portland didn't think it would happen to them...You never know.

Yea, but Portland had much higher picks and they were much more proactive on draft day than the kings have ever been.

It might but it won't happen so what's the point of thinking about it?

Well it's happened more than once, but regardless the odds are still extremely slim so no point in getting your hopes up.

You mean with Bogut? I think the Bucks were in position for like 8th or something when that happened.

We wont get it....Our luck sucks...Remember we had a chance to get the #8 pick last year but we got the #10 pick instead. IIRC we were tied with 2 other teams and they need to do a type of drawing to choose the draft order or something...

If only life were a video game. I ran the kings on my simulator, got the 5th/8th/9th/10th picks, ended up with a DJ Agustin/Martin/Nicolas Batum/DeAndre Jordan/JaVale McGee team.

But our luck sucks. All we can be happy with is the chance to get Agustine/JaVale.

^Speaking of Video Games..

I was messin with Live to see how much $ we would have in the next couple years, and If we dont resign Ron or Brad, we will have around 30 mil. to spend in 2010(I think it was). I will check tonight, and I'll see what Free Agents are available.

I knew we had some money to spend, but 30 Mil?!

while we're on the note of hypotheticals, what if we did get the #1. Would Beasley fit into our system? Watching him made me drool, and he could be that star PF that completes our team. Beno could hold down the point, plus there are tons of pgs in this years draft that could be spectacular in the NBA. we could trade miller or artest with a second for a late first to get a collison/agustine/westbrook kind of player.

If I had the top pick i would take Beasley. thoughts?

Petrie tends to go with the best player available, and I think the best player would be Michael Beasley. It would be great to have a PG like Rose but Beasley is an absloute Beast, and it would be hard for Peach to pass on him. So, I would say that if we did get that number one draft pick, we would wind up getting Beasley...but I definitly woudn't complain if we got Rose.

Beasley is definitely the #1 pick. You always will hear this big men are much harder to find then guards. Beasley will be a stud in this league.

If i get the #1 pick though, I take Rose. He has a defined postion/role/talent in the NBA. While Beasley is a VERY good player, this reminds me of the Glenn Robinson/Jason Kidd dilemma over a decade ago. I'd much rather have Kidd than Robinson and I'd much rather have Rose than Beasley(even though I think Beasley will be a better overall player than Robinson was). You can't go wrong with either, but I take Rose.

I have the number 1 pick, I'd trade down to number 2.

The majority of teams out there will most likely pick Beasley, and if our target is Rose, we could easily get something out of the number 2 team. A few more 2nd round picks, a swap of a contract, cash, something.

Of the possible Lotto teams,
I see
Miami, Seattle, Memphis, Clippers, Charlotte, Chicago, Indiana, New Jersey taking Beasley for sure
Minnesota, New York, Milwaukee, Portland, Denver taking Rose
