Shelden Williams

Discuss. Can this guy ever amount to anything? I think he's terrible personally, but I do recognize he's been in the league for only 2 years. I know it took J. O'Neal 4 years to develop, i'm more pessimistic with Shelden because of his lack of athleticism and sluggishness. Also the fact that he went to college and a VERY good one, DUKE, and he still shows very little promise after 2 years.

So, will he ever make it in the league to be a justifiable top 10 or even top 15 pick(we all acknowledge he never should have gone 5th - the Hawks are idiots)?

I think he'll be fine. He did look like crap at times with us, but he also showed flashes of really solid play. He always rebounded well and defended the post well. IMO, offensively, he's just not a post player. He doesn't have the fluidity necessary to be anything consistent down there. So when you put him in the wrong spot, of course he's going to look like crap. His mid-range jumper looked solid, and like with practice, that it could get better.

He just needs to learn some more things (yeah, he played at Duke, which would help him learn about the college game, but not necessarily the pro game), and get in better shape. But when that happens, I can see him being a lot like a Kurt Thomas.

If anyone heard Jim Rome's rant about CC Sabathia I think it's the same! He can mow down burgers and earn a check for a while before he gets run...Or he can get in better shape and have a stellar career!

If he dedicates on improving and stays in shape then he can help us alot especially with the bruiser type of body that he has. And hopefully he realizes that her fiance is a much much better player than he is to make it a challenge. It would aslso be great if he has this emotion when playing because he is so resrved as a player.

That explains SOOO much about Shelden then. No wonder he's worthless.

I still believe that Shelden could be hellva better if he loses around 15 pounds or so over the offseason. And as well as, working on his game too. The Shelden we know was overweight and didnt played a lot of minutes thus his inconsistencies and sluggish play. All in all, Shelden needs the offseason to see what kind of player he is.

Kind of like ICMTM said, If this guy wants to be a good player in this league he can.

He needs to spend a lot of his time with Kevin this offseason, that would help him out a lot. Hopefully some of his passion for the game and personal improvent will rub off on Sheldon.

Seriously though nearly every player that comes out of Duke sucks. Here's a list of crappy Duke players:

JJ Redick
Shelden(he has a chance to be decent)
Chris Duhon
Shavlik Randolph
Christian Laettner

Actually Brand and Boozer came out of Duke I think but still I can come up with more crappy Duke players. You want good players? Draft from UNC. Good UNC players:

Ray Felton
Michael Jordan
Rasheed Wallace
Vince Carter
Rashad Mccants
Marvin Williams

I can come up with more. Duke SUCKS.

The guy is a double-double guy with starters minutes. Not a franchise player! Never should have been considered one, don't really know if he was ever considered one in fact, but the '06 draft was weak!!! He may indeed have been picked around the right spot considering the talent taken after him.

I think he has the chance to be a solid defensive player that will get you 10-12 points a night (that jumper he has may carry him into being starter material), 10 rebounds, and a block or 2 in 35 mpg. He will also USE his 6 fouls. And very well in fact.

I see shelden as a possible Nene like player. He's got the decent midrange shot but he has some of the worst footwork that I have ever seen. He could learn a thing or two from Hawes. If he improves his footwork and works on his body and become more athletic he can be very good

So you're saying Shelden REALLY sucks. Cuz Nene's nothing special.

No actually Nene is good and bigger than Shelden. Last year in the playoffs he pretty much whored Tim Duncan, well atleast went toe to toe with him. He just had his whole year de-railed by getting cancer. Nene is a potential starter on a decent-good team(if guys like Haywood and Dalembert can be). Shelden is a Kurt Thomas type of player IMO, he has potential to get better if he works at it though but really I think he'll only be a starter if he's playing next to a REALLY good PF/C like a Garnett or Duncan or Amare type player.

Sorry, I disagree, Nene had a nice stretch, but he's been wildly inconsistent and heavly overrated for years now.

He was overrated for a while with the potential tag but I actually think he's underrated now because everyone thinks he sucks. Just because he was overrated doesn't mean he sucks. Those are 2 completely different things.

Still makes him a lotto big if they were taken ahead of him, which in a good draft he would most likely be a 16-20 type of prospect. Moving down 3-4 spots is still right around the same spot if you ask me, just like I said.
