What would it take to get this trade done?

Howard is a BYC, and Artest can opt out, but if we put that aside and look at the trade.

Would dallas do this straight up, or would we have to throw in a second rounder or douby?

Even with the stuff Howard said, I dont think we have a shot at getting him. Now that Avery is out the Mavs will be getting a new coach and I'm sure a new coach would not want a Ron Artest. Of course its possible we could get Howard but I think Dallas would want a little more, which they probably could get somewhere else.

I've seen Josh Howard dismantle Ron Artest up close and personal...but with that being said every dog has their day, and Josh Howard isn't the guy I'm looking for

I don't know if I like it. Value is pretty good but I am not so sure Ron isn't the better overall player. At best it's a lateral move. I think we have a pretty decent version of a Josh Howard type already in John Salmons. I'd rather just clear the room for him to play SF for us.

Yeah, I seen that as well. Howard gets the best of Artest several times now...And Desmond Mason

But yeah, regardless, Artest is better player than Howard...

The only way the kings should be involved in a Josh Howard deal is the following

Artest---------------------> Dallas
Howard -------------------> 3rd Team
3rd Team's package ----> Sacramento

Unless one of Salmons or Garcia is going somewhere or Garcia gets more time at PG, along with Howard being one year younger than Ron, and having that contract, it's a pretty redundant move to trade for Howard. He also isn't as good a player as Ron. I'd say somewhat better or right with Ron a year ago, but that's changed since. Also, despite what he said about his smoking, that's still not good in general, and still wonder somewhat how he goes about it and the effects.

Then you have Dallas' questionability and what they're going to do... is the situation going to be fitting to bring in Ron, and will they be interested in moving Howard?

I know Ron guarded Howard at least 2 or 3 games since 06-07, but not sure if he was on him primarirly every game he's played against Dallas since 06-07. Also, have to take into consideration the defense around Ron was inconsistently effective (and still is). He can't do it all on his own, nobody can, especially for wing-defenders. Especially also, when at times through out the season, Ron had soreness bothering him, and effected his mobility.

Desmond Mason when he played against us this year, didn't do anything really. Also had a lesser role on the Bucks compared to the Hornets.

Just pointing out, that there were other factors involved.

1) Artest > Howard (sure Howard might match up against ROn, but Ron matches up better with the other 29 starting SF's)
2) LAteral move it's a SF for SF swap, no thanks
3) Howard has muc the same skill set as JOhn Salmons for TWICE the price
4) Howard appears to be a self absorbed knucklehead. At least Ron is a knucklehead that wants nothing more than to win.
5) There's no age difference between the two, this neither helps us compete now NOR rebuild.

So in short, NO.

I don't even care about Howard's pot smoking at all really. I just care that he happened to just put up one of the worst playoff performances in recent memory.

Yeah, I totally agree. There was several factors lead to that. I was just making a vague point that's all... :lol:

But yeah, the "soreness" phase took a toll to Artest IMO.

By the way, when I mentioned Mason, I was talking about when he was in the Hornets. IIRC he was getting the better of Artest in several possessions of the game (s) but other than that it is not significant to be considered...

In pointing out Howard on an occasion or two has manhandled Ron wasn't used to validate moving Ron Artest, but more so to show on some level this is a worthy topic and the trade is plausible.

I've also seen Artest shut down Howard so it's not a one way street.

well my personal opinion is that Howard is better than artest in the big picture, including potential. But it looks like a unanimous no, so we can move on. What piece can we salvage from Dallas once they start their fire sale, which will happen, don't even try to debate it.

Yes, I know you were, I remember how Mason scored on him quite a bit then in like all the games.

Yeah, I wasn't posting it in relation to Ron being moved.

Rick Carlisle is the first person to interview for the vacant Mavericks' coaching position, Marc Stein of ESPN.com is reporting.

Carlisle met with Donnie Walsh, with sources telling ESPN.com that Mavs owner Mark Cuban was not scheduled to participate in Carlisle's first interview for the job.

According to the report, the Mavericks would also like to interview Jeff Van Gundy, who to date has said he was not interested in returning to coaching this season.

But if Carlisle is hired... I'd lean to not, that he and Ron would be hooking back up again. Especially with Howard there.

I also doubt Carlisle's going to have a rebuilding team, but a team directed towards making the playoffs.

I've always thought of the Mavs as an over achieving team anyway so really I'm not looking for anything from them.

Sources have told the New York Post that the 2001-02 Coach of the Year Rick Carlisle has agreed to terms to become the next head coach of the Dallas Mavericks .

Carlisle had previously interviewed with Chicago and New York, with the Knicks' interview coming only on Wednesday, before Dallas quickly swooped and hired the former Piston and Pacer coach.

Dallas fired Avery Johnson only on Wednesday after the Mavericks fell in the first round for the second consecutive season, this time to the New Orleans Hornets .

The Dallas Morning News -
Rick Carlisle and the Mavericks have reached an agreement on a four-year contract that will reportedly pay him close to $4 million a season, according to The Dallas Morning News.

They reached an agreement in principle on Friday night, with both sides confirming the rumors.

Dallas isn't expected to officially announce the hiring of Carlisle as the team's ninth coach until the middle of next week.

Carlisle previously coached the Pacers and Pistons.
