Here is the list......
http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/stor ... freeagents
First of all I would like Artest & KT to opt out
then at the top of my list is:
Josh Smith, Monta Ellis, Luol Deng
at the top if the Kings take a win now approach:
Baron Davis, Corey Magette, Shawn Marion
just below top of my list:
Ben Gordon, Carl Landry, Daniel Gibson
would be a nice veteran addition:
Grant Hill, Antawn Jamison, Chris Duhon, Paul Millsap, Micheal Finley, Janerro Pargo, Trevor Ariza, James Posey, Devin Brown
Young guy who could develop into a very goog player:
Keleena Azubuike, Louis Williams, David Harrison, Patrick O'Bryant, Randolph Morris, CJ Miles, Jermareo Davidson, Demitris Nichols
If the Kings could somehow come away with Josh Smith he would be enough.
free agents

I think we dont have a realistic chance to sign anyone major we dont have nearly enough cap space martins salary was raised by an addition 7-8 million from what he made last season and beno will be resigned from paying him a few hundred thousand to between 4-6 million so just martin & beno increases our team salary by +11-12 million in additional team salary we will be lucky to have the mid level exception and possibly an addition 2-4 million in available cap space !
dont get your hopes up on getting anybody major !

The team isn't ready IMO to go after a big FA name, we lack expirings, cap space and general direction at that and we aren't in position to give up top talent to get one.
I'd like to gamble on lottery big men that haven't got a chance. The ones that stand out is Patrick O'Bryant and Cedric Simmons, if these aren't available go for bruiser like Harrison.
The mind set is that these guys are cheap but can pan out to be something special, and we have the minutes to give IF they have something to offer.

With exactly what money that the Kings don't have and have little to no chance of getting are we supposed to go after all these free agents?

I know you don't really think that I am suggesting that they go after all of these FAs?
Beno Udrih can wait
If has to be sign and trade, so be it
Like SRV said they can go after some young guys hence I offered this group in the post

Im just wondering. If Ron opted out. Does that mean we have another ~$8mil in cap space? Can we combine that with the MLE and sign a FA to a $10+mil/year contract?

^nope, the Kings are over the cap so we can only use exceptions(MLE+LLE) to sign FAs.
I dont think its realistic for the Kings to go after a FA this offseason, we should be having this conversation at this time next year.

That's what I was wondering.....
Ron can opt out, so can KT. They have a team option on Moore plus their other FAs. I was hoping they could get enough under the cap to go after someone

That's incredibly wishful thinking. KT will not opt out in a million years. Mikki's team option (that's kinda what it is at least) isnt' until next year, and Ron has said he won't opt out, but even if he does (and even if we still don't re-sign him) we still will have all of like $2mil in capspace, which literally does nothing for us.
There is no way we can get a big name FA this offseason unless a S&T is done, but in order for that to happen, we have to be able to put together an enticing package, which won't happen in all likelihood.
And no, Beno can't wait. We either have to use our MLE on him this year or lose him. Losing him is an option, but if that's going to happen, we'll have to decide on that quickly so that we can keep our options open. But even if we don't re-sign him, I frankly hope that we don't use our MLE unless Petrie sees somebody that he really thinks is a hidden gem.

I wouldn't mind at all getting Nichols... another swingman, but he differs a lot from the swingmen we have now. He's big wing shooter that isn't bad defensively, and is effective driving to the basket. I've been a supporter of his since pre-draft.
Who knows how our wing spots will look like by latter September.
I also woudn't mind taking some time on O'Bryant or Simmons. Moreso Simmons. But that would be dictated by our draft picks.
Don't really expect it, though. Don't think we'll do much in free agency.

Beno Udrih. Nobody else is realistic, nor would the ones that are realistic take us anywhere.
I would like to take a look at O'Bryant though. Probably not likely since we will most likely try to retain Beno. Unless O'Bryant will sign for the minimum. Can we use the LLE on him, we still have it right?
Oh yeah, I'd like to get Jamario Davidson for sure too.

I don't see the Bobcats dropping Davidson's team option. I want to sign Carl Landry with the MLE though and draft DJ Augustin.

Using the MLE (not full, if possible) with Udrih is the best option IMO.

Now, why do you want to mess up my wet dream?

Maybe we can get someone to pay KT off. I thought Mikki's option was for this year though. That is really bad.
Hopefully, Petrie can find a diamond in the ruff through one of the young players I listed.
I would like to take a chance on Louis Williams

As it stands right now, the Kings don't have a single PG on their roster. (No Douby's not a PG, and even if he was he's not ready to play significant minutes.
Kings will need to trade, draft or sign at least 2 PG's in the off season, and right now they only have the MLE & LLE to sign players with.
They'll probably spend most (if not all) of their MLE on Beno Udrih and rightly so, not only does he fill a need, but he proved to be a solid player.
Kings aren't likely to get much of anything out of the player that they sign for the LLE, so that means they're going to have to draft or trade for another PG. I think that's at least part of the reason the TJ Ford/Ron Artest idea is interesting to alot of us.

I would assume the MLE goes to Beno, unless we draft a PG they want to start right away, or we trade for one that is better than Beno.
If we can get Josh Smith DO IT, if not then I have another idea...
how about we DON'T spend money for once.
The MLE should go to Beno/no brainer deals/no one else.
We need to get under the cap, and as long as we sign a MLE each year, then that will almost never happen. Suppose we never signed Salmons and Moore, and Artest opted out, then we would actually be about 15 mil under the cap this season.
For me its.
1. No Brainers (ala, Josh Smith)
2. Beno
3. Anyone that we could get for extremely cheap who could be high reward (POB, Landry, etc)
4. No One Else

It's not that bad. We'll just have to wait a year, because then we'll have, in theory, enough expirings to bring in two stars (not saying we would have the sufficient pieces otherwise to do that, but that's just to give you an idea of just how much expiring money we have next year).

How about more expiring money...........
This trade works
Kings trade Artest & Miller to Heat for Marion........

But Miami wouldn't do it. And even still, I'm pretty sure that that wouldn't give us enough cap space to go after anyone big.

They might, depends on where they want to go. But I really don't like the idea of trading for Marion based on the fact that we only value his expiring contract in this scenario. We have to get something tangible in a trade for Miller or Artest, let alone if both are involved in the same trade.
