Bulls/Kings

Post#1 » by JimmyBulls » Mon May 5, 2008 7:09 pm

This is a deal that should improve both teams.

Kings get Hinrich, Thomas, and the right to swap positions in 1st rd. 09 (Top 3 protection)

Bulls get Miller, Garcia and 1st rd. 08

Kings aren't giving up their #1 for that package.

We need a PG, but Hinrich's stock isn't high enough to warrant what your asking.

The Kings would get value that is more valuable than anything that will be available in the first round, and they have the right to swap in 09. They will have a nice mix of productive veterans and developing youth. This is not a bad lineup by a longshot.

PG- Hinrich/Udrih/Douby
SG- Martin/Salmons
SF- Artest/FA
PF- Thomas/Williams
C- Hawes/Moore

I'd seriously consider it....

I'm not a fan of Hinrich, Beno is just as good (maybe better) and costs a hell of a lot less. Not to mention the goal of moving Miller would be to clear salary...Hinrich's salary defeats that goal.

Despite the fact that Tryus is demonstrating an ability to be as dumb as a broken lamp post, I would take a risk with him. But not for this package...and not without the Bulls taking one of KT, SAR or both.
This space needs to be filled with a new sig...but I'm too lazy to make one.

Hinrich > Udrih!

That's not the biggest question IMO. The question is do we want Tyrus Thomas at all? I'd do Hinrich for Miller and leave it at that.

Well, Hinrich is better than Beno, but I don't know about this deal. It is interesting, but I think I might do it without Cisco.

Can't agree less there, Hinrich is a far better passer then Beno...

The thing that hangs me up is the contracts, of course.

Kings decline. Hinrich is overrated, cant shoot and has a big contract. Thomas is nice, but taking on Hinrich and giving up Garcia+ a 1st is too much.

wow kings are asked to give up way too much here. Hinrich lowered his value alot this year. Tyrus is still extremely raw and probably will never reach his potential.

Take out the 1st and I'd probably agree. Still don't want Kirk anywhere near the kings.

I think the general idea has legs for 2 reasons:
1) Hinrich, despite a crappy season, is still a good PG. He's a very good defender and a decent distributor. I tend to think he's in a bad situation with the Bulls (as in they just don't mesh well together).
2) Always think "buy low/sell high". The Kings bought low on Webber, they bought low on Bibby, they bought low on Divac, etc. I don't see Hinrich's value getting much lower than it is now

However, as always, there are some issues:
1) Hinrich is 27 so he's in that gray area as far as rebuilding goes.
2) The same objection I had in the TJ Ford thread: obtaining a starting PG pretty much means you're letting Beno go and, in essence, you're giving him up in a trade as well.
3) I don't think Tyrus Thomas is any good. I really don't see him every being anything more than a slightly better Stromile Swift (uber-athlete but just not that skilled).
4) The pick swap is almost useless. The Kings are playing in the MUCH tougher conference and are almost a guaranteed lottery team next year while the Bulls have a legitimate chance at the playoffs (all you need is 35ish wins to sneak in).

My general feeling is that while I think that Hinrich has more value than Miller I'm very confident in saying that:

The difference between Hinrich & Miller <<< The different between Thomas/future pick swap & Garcia/Lottery pick

How much would opinions change if the 1st rd. pick in 09 was outright?

This trade is FAR too complicated to be realistic.

Something like a Hinrich for Brad Miller/#45 seems a bit more practical

I dont get this at all. I know we get a PG and all, but we can get a much better PG in a deal like this. I would like to hold on to Cisco as well. Dont see the point in this deal for the Kings at all...

Eh, maybe. I don't know, there is a chance that the pick swap is useless at the end of the day.

Better. That might get the deal done. The Kings have a chance at 2 lotto picks next near. The one hangup is that this draft is deep while next year might not be.
