Would you deal Kenny Thomas/Shareef Abdur-Rahim for Zach Randolph/David Lee

I ask this in regards to the cap situation. In 2011 not only do we have Moore/Miller off the books(and perhaps Ron) but Salmons/Zbo would come off the books as well. Our young core would be:

We take a chance on ZBo and see if he pulls his act together, if not we get Lee(something positive for something very little in Thomas/SAR) and perhaps look to save some cash by buying out Z-Bo.

C: Hawes
PF: Lee/Williams
SF: Garcia
SG: Martin
PG: Westbrook?

Our CURRENT roster would look like:

C: Miller, Hawes, Sh. Williams
PF: Lee, Moore, Z-bo(bought out maybe?)
SF: Artest, Garcia
SG: Martin, Salmons, Douby
PG: Udrih, Westbrook?

and why would NY do this? they get two terrible contracts for one, plus they lose their most talented young player, practically the only hope for their team. There is no way this would go through, and you are stupid for even posting this

They save SEVENTEEN million dollars to attempt to get under the cap in 2010.

To be honest, I rather let K9/SAR expire and receive that relief instead getting blackhole and an overrated player...Besides Lee is not an ideal fit for Hawes. Lee is not a defensive player which we solely lack...

^ Well, I think Lee would be a short-term filler at starting PF... so then, when we get a better fitting guy, Lee can be a good back-up and/or valuable piece

exactally, we need a dennis rodman type around martin and hawes, Lee would be an excellent back up for the direction we are going in, but once again, NY will not even get close to doing this. the only way they would part with lee would be if artest was involved, which i would do, but thats a different topic

You forgot the category "What, do you think I'm stupid? Of course I'd do it".

Randolph is far from useless, unlike KT, and Lee still has a lot of room to grow. Unfortunately Donnie Walsh is not as stupid as Isiah Thomas and he would never go for something so lop-sided even if it is to try to dump salary.

Oh, I assumed that it was a long term move but in that case my whole thought changes. Lee could be a good short term PF...But either way, NY will not do this though...

I I don't think I would do it. Trading for Zach would push our FA back a whole year, and getting him and Lee isn't worth that for me.

I have no idea why NY would want to do this..?

Isiah Thomas left so I dont see them doing any deal like this anytime soon...

NY does this to be a very strong player in '10 FA, which would kill our ability to be players there, I wouldn't do it.

Looking ahead though, there are MANY teams with lots of money to potentially spend in 2010. 2011, not so much. Then looking at the FA crops of each year, 2011 is MUCH better than 2010. We'd get much more value in 2011 than we would in 2010 as far as free agency goes. Then we add a young player in Lee to fill our rebounding needs off the bench and take a gamble on Randolph to see if he evers wises up. If not, we've just moved our Free Agency to 2011(not necessarily a bad thing) and added a David Lee young player to our frontcourt.

Looks great for the Kings. But the Knicks trade a productive PF and their best young player for a bunch of crap. They get no additional picks, will continue to stink, get minimal cap savings for the next two years in the hopes that with their '10 money that Lebron will want to play for them and save NY. Highly doubtful

Randolph produces stats, but not wins. He's one of the worst contracts, if not THEE worst contract in basketball right now. The Knicks are looking to get cap space. I don't see many teams out there even willing to offer pure expirings for the guy, that's how bad he is. And just shaving a year off of his deal(i.e. Thomas/SAR) would be a huge boon for the rebuilding Knicks.

You could make that same argument (stats not wins) with quite a few players in the NBA and in fact you are dealing one in Reef who has been labeled that. Zach has a bad contract but at least he produces and the last couple years in Portland he wasnt surrounded by the best team nor NY this year. KT and Reef suck. They produce nothing. Shaving a year off would be great for NY but at the expense of Lee to hope that James signs with them in '10. Absolutely ridiculous.
