What helped keep you guys at the top of the league for all those years, having a defensive stopper in doug christie, or having a 3rd star/scoring option in peja stojakovic

its really hard to choose between the two, i think they were equally vital to our success


it cant be just either of those two.

The chemistry was incredible back then.


Great defender, great shooter, good floor leader....great passing big men.


Not only that, but our bench...they were fun to watch and very productive.

Christie's abilities as a defensive stopper are a bit overrated, he was a good defender but not a Prince/Bowen type of stopper, Peja wasn't as important in '02 as he was in '04 (which is evident by having success with Hedo instead of him) , I would say DC was more important in the 02 + 03 runs, he was the best perimeter defender and helped a lot in PG duties, Peja clearly was the more important in '04.

Neither, Webber, Vlade, and Rick were more important. Having a frontcourt that can pass like that, with Webb's athleticism and versatility and Vlade's post game and knowledge was what made the whole thing go along with Rick's game plan. Without those 2 there is no 2000 Kings. There had success together before Peja broke out, before DC, before Bibby, etc.

But I would say DC during the 02/03 years(when we really had a shot). He was one of the guys who could truly give Kobe problems and that's because he was not only a great defender, but he had a ton of athleticism. He was a pretty unique player IMO. We were just as good with Peja as we were with Hedo IMO.

Webber was by farrrrrrrrrrr the most important piece.

However, I would say the bench was more important than both Doug Christie and Peja.

Webber by far...the others I'd say Doug was more valuable than Peja only because we had other guys that could pick up Peja's scoring.

After him, I would have to say Vlade Divac- with his passing skills, the hook shot, how he constantly flopped err I mean got fouled, and most importantly, the chemistry he created in the locker room.

1. Webber
2. Vlade
3. Bench (Strongest bench in the league, our bench was always better than the opposition's bench)
4. Christie (Although he wasn't as good as a Bowen/Prince/Artest, he brought a defensive attitude to the team. If no one on the team has the defensive mindset, then your overall defense is bad. If a few players have that mindset, then it carries over to the rest, at least a little bit)
5. Peja
6. Bibby
7. Coach
8. Fans

Who do you think is actually better than Chris???? He is way better than Reggie, Mitch, Kevin, any of those guys. Those guys never won ****. Chris was a legit superstar PF who almost led the team to the NBA finals.

Mitch Richmond sucks compared to Chris. It's funny how the team finally got good THE YEAR AFTER HE LEFT. Mitch was decent but Chris was on a WHOLE OTHER LEVEL.

The Kings, even without Webber, had the best record in the NBA in 2003 , webber had way much better supporting cast, therefore your assessment its not fair.

I am going to go out on a limb and guess you are too young to have watched Richmond in his prime. To say Webber was on a whole other level is just ignorant. Sure Kings won more with Webber, they also had Divac, Christie, JWill, Peja, later Bibby, the bench mob, Hedo , and so on. Go look who the Rock had supporting him, then come back and say the same thing you just said with a straight face. Richmond was a two way player unlike C Web.

Since it is unfair to compare team success, individually, Mitch definitely does not suck compared to Webber. Now, I haven't seen too much of Richmond, but I've seen some games of him (and will see more in the future), and have heard and read a lot about him.

C-Webb is also not "way better" than Reggie Miller. Reggie's a more accomplished NBA player than Webber in terms of the playoffs, and will be remembered more in NBA history. Reggie's an NBA icon, Reggie's one of the most clutch players of all-time. Which is not as a knock on Webber, I myself am not as familiar with Webber's clutch ability as others, have heard and read more about that than I've seen. But that's beside the point, the difference is just significant there. Webber was the more talented/skilled player, and has better numbers because of his ability.

Whoever thinks Richmond was honestly as good or better than Webber needs to realize they're smoking something. Webber's rookie GSW team>Mitch's GSW teams. Bigs are more important than guards, Webber was a more skilled player, and a better overall player. Mitch was good but he isn't close to C-Webb. Chris was at 1 point tied for the 2nd best PF in the NBA with KG, and if he had been able to get a couple rings he would be remembered as a top 10 PF all time IMO.

Chris was an immensely talented player. He had more talent than Mitch.

That 2002 team WAS Chris Webber. He guarded Shaq at times in that series. When Peja sprained his ankle and missed a couple weeks the team didn't skip a beat. You know why? Because of Chris Webber's greatness. He scored the most points for us in that series. We ran our offense through him. He was the guy getting rebounds and blocking shots. I mean come on, Mitch was good but he was NOT better than Webber.

Mitch was a 2 way player unlike Webber? COME ON. That's a ridiculous statement. Chris could play very good D when he wanted too before the knee injury, and at worst he was a good shotblocker. In 2003 with Chris playing the majority of the season and getting 1-2 BPG and like 10 or 11 RPG we were the #1 defense in the league. The next year when he came off microfracture surgery and only played 1/4 of the season we had the 24th D or something like that. Come on, to say prime Webber never played any D is IGNORANT. Just like me saying Richmond sucks is ignorant. But if you watch the old tapes of Chris in his prime like I have, you'd see him guarding Shaq half the game. You'd see him blocking shots. He is a MUCH better defender than you give him credit for.

My Mitch jersey is framed and hanging on the wall. I wear my Webber jersey to school. That should sum up where I stand on the issue of the Rock and Webber.

Mitch single-handedly kept many Kings' fans from committing suicide.

Wasn't it Doug and Peja who choked in game 7?!
