The Knicks may have a chance to sign Ron Artest to a five-year, $30 million mid-level exception, if he opts out of the last year of his contract with the Sacramento Kings and becomes a free agent on July 1. That contract would pay him $7.4 million. It's even a possibility the Knicks could work a sign-and-trade with Sacramento, if the Kings would agree to it.
"Who wouldn't want to?" Artest said in the tunnel outside the Garden's locker rooms following yesterday's WNBA game between the Liberty and Monarchs. "I'm not going to talk about that stuff till July 1. I don't play for the money, I play for the love." NY Daily News

That's probably the most contrived and extrapolated article from one small quote I think I've seen in sports journalism. It went from, "Yeah who wouldn't want to" said by Artest into - RON COULD SIGN A 5 year 30 million dollar deal with the Knicks. And I've seen some DOOZY'S in the NY press before. By far NY has the most irresponsible journalists in nation. That's why many consider them tabloids, they don't represent much news AT ALL and here is a prime example of that.

If Ron is opting out (which since April, it's sided to he won't), he's going to sign with a playoff/contending team. Not the damn Knicks, I don't think home city is that big of a factor for him.
I would say he'd sign with the Spurs if he did opt out (not the fan in me there, but the credibility). The situation is ideal, and they were after him before.

He may opt out, but he won't be a Knick! Book that. Donnie Walsh wouldn't sign him, and further more Ron in a run and gun style offense won't work. IMO he'd be a GREAT fit on the Pistons, or a defensive team that does not run much. NYC will be a running team. IMO I can see Brad Miller going to NYC before Ron Artest.

I wish the Rockets would get off their high horse and add the guy they know would take them to the next level. I say give Sactown what they want. Brooks, SNT Landry, etc.

Most of your fellow Rockets fans would say that you don't need Ron because you have Battier.

And this is part of the problem. Battier is a glorified utility guy. The organization brought him in as if he were the third piece and truthfully he's a solid three. Not allstar worthy like a guy like Artest who could just effect the game in more ways than one. Shane is a good perimeter shooter too but not much else. Give me and the sane people Ron Artest and I'll give you the WCF.
