Can it be worked out?

Post#1 » by VeeJay24 » Sun Jun 22, 2008 6:47 pm

Is it possible to do a deal with Denver the principles being Artest & Melo?

Would you want to? I would

I had in mind a deal involving Artest & Miller.......

Artest is better IMO, however Melo is much younger. We'd probably have to include our pick in the process(Bare Minimum) with the age/hype that Melo gets. Does it make sense, sorta, but ultimately I don't see it happening.

Not happening.

Plus, we wouldn't be a contender later on with a Kevin/Carmelo wing-pairing.

Neither are going to be capable enough (in different ways, physically and mentally) of committing enough to playing defense on a consistent, course of the game, basis. Specifically, neither are going to be able to take the other team's best wing-scorer and slow him down, and at least make it tough on him, stop him at times. Ultimately, regardless of what they do defensively, both are offensively-consistent players in focus and energy expense. Thus insufficient defensive production.

Carmelo I just don't see being enough defensively like LeBron has in the last year or so. Carmelo has said each of the last two pre-seasons, he's wanted to make all-nba defense (or at least be on that level). While having a better defensive team situation helps, LeBron individually has made it to that level within the last year, and it's only a matter of time till he gets selected (not being established enough yet as a defender).

I don't believe there would be enough compatability between Kevin and Carmelo because of each of their defensive situations.

I think the Nuggs would want Artest, Miller, Salmons and Moore for Melo, KMart and Hunter. They probably would want the #12 as well. Melo is the face of their franchise and it's tough trading guys like that especially at his age with his potential. Nuggets would be tough:
AI / Atkins
Salmons / JR Smith
Artest / Kleiza
Miller / Moore
Camby / Nene

Kings get a superstar in Melo and take on two horrible contracts in KMart and Hunter

No way it cannot include giving up #12 especially if they want the Kings to take Martin and Hunter...

If the Kings were going to go after 'Melo, I doubt that it's the case, but if they were, they'd probably have to overpay significantly, and Petrie's no fool.

I don't see it happening either way.

I'm not interested in a one position player (SF) who doesn't play defense AT ALL no matter how good a scorer he is. I definitely cannot see overpaying for him and killing our cap for the forseeable future.

If its true and Denver already turned down an offer of Billups and Prince for Melo theres no way this idea would even be entertained!

I think I would do it.

I would not want to give up our 12th pick, but I would be willing to give up Brad and Artest to grab Melo..
