O'neal for ford and 17th!

Post#1 » by jeffjtk1234 » Wed Jun 25, 2008 9:46 pm

according to yahoo this deal is done in principle...this mean indiana will not take a guard at 11. Augustine, gordon could drop to us. This deal effects the kings draft considerably.

I'm not as into Augustine as others because of his serious lack of height, and believe there are going to be better oppurtunities in the future for a long-term PG.

Still, the Knicks or Clippers could definitely take him. I think one of them probably will, too. Also, honestly would prefer that happens.

I wouldn't mind getting Augustine, but he's not in my top three.

Yeah, that's the ONLY thing that I have concerns on: Height. But Augustine is a good player IMO. If Augustine is available, I think I would select him at #12. Maybe this opens to a trade from Portand?

#12 (Rights of DJ Augustine)

FOR

#13 (Probably Arthur, Jordan, or etc)
#27

That would be very good for the Kings IMO.

I'd love that trade scenario ^... Portland does really need a PG, and one like Augustin.

Yeah, that is one of my ideal scenarios in the draft. If we deal, We will select Arthur at the #13 and at the #27 we got various options (Chalmers, Hickson, Ibaka, Walker or etc) Chalmers could be a good pick. Chalmer/Arthur combo with the Kings would be nice :) Good overall basketball.

yeah...we just need to call portland and say hey, well give you augustine and one of our 2nd rounders for the 13th and the 27th at draft time. Portland would have to do it if westbrook, gordon, bayless, etc are gone.

Augustine would be a beast with oden, roy, aldridge.

So what your saying is that because Indy will have Ford they won't want DJ. I highly doubt they dont draft DJ, even after this deal, but I hope your right..

Well, they could still draft Augustin with Ford's injury proneness, or have one of them as the set back-up later on down the line.

Interesting point, UKF.

I think this move does increase the likelyhood we would take and keep Augustin, but as the favorite now? I can't say that.

Eh, you have a point. Assuming that they get Ford, they will still have Tinsley. According to sources, they are shopping him. Probably, the Pacer MIGHT select DJ but they will be stack in the PG position if they keep Tins.

But I hope the latter.

Ah, I forgot about Tinsley, though he's pretty irrelevant because he's on the block for sure.

I dont see how they could justify drafting another undersized PG after acquiring Ford. Augistine will not be wearing a Pacer jersey nxt year.

The idea of swapping the 12th and a second for the 13th and the 27th sounds great in theory, but I truly believe Portland already has a deal worked out with NJ to get the 10th for the 13th and 27th. That would give NJ 3 first round picks. And clearly, Portland has its eyes on DJ. It would make sense for Pritchard to deal with Thorn than Petrie. Clearly a better chance of getting their player.

And I know that NJ and Indy have no need for a point. But it just makes sense to trade for the 10th when it would require the same package to get the 12th. The only possible say I see NJ not doing this deal is if they have a guy they covet and believe sac will take him if they move down to 13.
Interesting, you have some ideas you would like to bounce off Brian Sabean? That's strange, I have some objects I would like to bounce off Brian Sabean.

On second thought, the Pacers will have a hole in the PF position. I think they might draft a PF (Arthur, Randolph or etc..). So, thus Augustine lands to us.

They would have two guys that can start at point, but DJ has a lot more time left to become better than both of those guys. He actually has all the time. DJ will most likely be better than Tins and Ford, and Indy knows that.

TJ Ford also went to Texas, but thats something that may mean nothing.

pacers will take best available at 11, maybe hoping that a Gordon falls to them to play the two. Then take the best big man at 17. Whether its lopez, speights, arthur, jordan. Bird did an excellent job here.

Just on a side note ... for all the trade suggestions on the trade forum suggesting Artest for Ford and the 17th and all the Raptor fans saying thats not close enough. They instead get a broke-down player in O'neal who doesnt really fit with their fast paste offense. Interesting to see the preceived value to the actual value.

Indy makes out like bandits here. Even if ford gets hurt, I wouldnt have done an O'neal for the 17th pick alone.

Yeah, that leaves them a huge hole at PF. Unless they think Danny Granger or Shawne Williams are to similar to Anthony Randolph then I could see them taking him. David Harrison has done absolutely nothing for Indy and I could see Indy taking Hibbert as he would fill that hole...And would keep the Kings from taking him..I'm still scared that that may happen.

Grant Napear on Sports 1140:

-More than a 50-50 chance Beno is out
-Says Clippers will get Beno more than mid-level (more than the Kings can offer)
-Kings will try to get DJ to fill up that PG spot.

Yeah, I have a feeling that Beno will be out. So, this just heightens the PG issue.

Do you think if Indy ends up drafting Beno, that we will draft the next best PG available (Mario Chalmers) or draft the bext player available?

I think if DJ is not there, then we will end up trading our pick and moving back to get Chalmers and someone else late in the 1st round.
