Kings Making a Pitch for Arenas

Post#1 » by SupaFly78 » Tue Jul 1, 2008 12:58 pm

Also, I heard from a very reliable source that the Sacramento Kings contacted Arenas and said they are willing to do "whatever it takes" to land his services even if they have to "trade their entire team." Guess the Maloof brothers want to matter again. Washington Post

Of course the Kings are going to be interested...every team will show interest. That doesn't mean they will be able to get a deal done.
This space needs to be filled with a new sig...but I'm too lazy to make one.

Didn't Arenas say he wanted to stay in Washington? He is a free agent so Washington cannot trade him where ever they want, he has to agree to it and I doubt he agrees to go to Sacramento. I don't really see this happening. And keep this quiet you might upset Beno.

No chance this would happen obviously (and half of me doesn't really believe it anyways) but I'm torn on Arenas. I love Arenas as a character (for what he does off the court and for some of the things ON the court--no matter how childish they may be). However, I'm not sure if I'd want him on this current Kings team.

It makes sense to go after Arenas, I don't think the notion mentioned in the article of willing to do whatever it takes to have him is true, because that's not a proper negotiating technique, and because Arenas as great as he is, and he is great, isn't a carry a franchise on your back kinda guy.

Its nice to see that they are busy so far this free agency. Not just sitting back and letting things happen..

The question we have to ask ourselves is what would Washington want back in a sign and trade because thats really our only option. Clearly, they have no need for Artest with Butler and Jamison (who is resigning) at the forward spots. We are not going to include Kevin. And I dont really see brad as a fit there (not that he would be enough by himself anyway). So what? Spencer, Jason, future picks ... do we really want to mortage the future for Gilbert?

More importantly:

Brad/Spencer
Mikki/Jason
Ron/Salmons
Kevin/Cisco
Artest/Singletary

is that enough to compete for a championship and not just a low seed in the west? If not, we should consider this.
Interesting, you have some ideas you would like to bounce off Brian Sabean? That's strange, I have some objects I would like to bounce off Brian Sabean.

Arenas better not come to Sac.

Only way possible is a sign and trade, in which, I'm sure Martin will have to be involved. Possibly Miller too, just because it'll be hard for us to create a package to work salary wise.

Martin/Miller for Arenas + filler?

Arenas is WAAYYY to high on himself. As stated above - he is NOT a Kobe/LeBron type of guy who is worth max money because he can put the franchise on his back.

Lets do the math... If he gets the rumored 6yr 124mill contract then the first year would pay him 20.6 million.

The kings could do something like:

Miller (11.3 mill)
Artest (8.4 mill)
Salmons (5.1 mill)
= 24.8 million

for

Arenas 20.6 mil
Stevenson (3.6)
= 24.2 million

If it gets close to Arenas signing with the Warriors then the wizards could try to persuade him going to the kings by giving him the extra year they can offer.

Wizards: Kings:

Nick Young Arenas
Caron Butler Martin
Artest Garcia
Jamison Moore
Miller Hawes

Pretty good starting lineup. Not so sure about that lineup

I am split on Gilbert...

Third team! Miller has value. Artest has Value. Beno is resigned. We have two bad contracts (SAR + Thomas) so we are in a position to get another bad deal (or two) in return.

The making the deal part isn't what I'm concerned about. It's the why would G. Arenas agree to come here and play with a bunch of young bucks? I can see why Arenas would fit on this team but there are a lot of assumptions. Arenas is actually a poster child of the type of 1 we would have in our offense.

Bottom line...he's not coming.

Paul Silas-style circa 2003: "Gilbert ain't comin'.... he ain't comin"

Antonio Daniels would start at PG (as he has when Gilbert's been out), not Nick Young.

Besides didn't Arenas said he will return to Washington if they resigned Jamison?

Arenas could easily go and sign with GSW and LAC.

Only way he comes here to Sacramento is via S&T, and I am pretty damm sure Washington won't do any deal that doesn't have Kevin Martin going back to them. They hell as sure won't be taking on the contracts of Shareef/Thomas, so again, Artest+Martin+Sheldon, or Martin+Miller+Garcia, regardless the case, it makes our final team worse than Washington. They can't do s*** in the east, meaning we won't even come close in the west.

I have some real big reservations signing a guy like Arenas after the turmoil he's had the last year or two health wise.

Probably just Geoff trying to make amends for the biggest draft mistake of his career. Haha.

Return to Sacramento Kings
