The Kings have come to terms with point guard Bobby Brown, a point guard out of Cal State Fullerton who played with New Orleans in the recent Las Vegas summer league.

The deal is for two years at the veteran's minimum with a player option in the second season (specific terms to come), as confirmed by a source close to the Kings. Brown's signing should be official by tomorrow and will be a clear sign the Kings will hold an open tryout of sorts for their backup point guard position. Second-round draft pick Sean Singletary (Virginia) will also be hoping to land the job of behind Beno Udrih.

Brown was impressive while playing with the Hornets, averaging 15.2 points and 6.3 assists. Brown, who played in Berlin last season, was impressive enough at summer league that there was buzz that he could become the backup to Hornets point guard Chris Paul. .- Sam Amick

Nice signing here. He's a pretty talented player and did really well in summer league. He looks like a good slasher, defender, and passer IMO. He's probably more ready than Singletary. Hopefully he plays well and they both do well.

Per ESPN:

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=3502700

The Sacramento Kings have given guard Bobby Brown a guaranteed contract for two years, Marc Stein from ESPN.com is reporting.

The second year of Brown's new deal, sources said, is a player option.

Brown was chased by a number of teams in the last week, including the New Orleans Hornets, where Brown was impressive as the lead guard in the Las Vegas summer league. The Warriors were also believed to be interested.

Israel's Maccabi Tel-Aviv has been pursuing Brown aggressively this month, but sources said Brown was on the verge of accepting a multiyear deal "in the millions" from Spanish giant Barcelona this week when Sacramento increased its bid.

Brown outplayed three first-round picks -- Memphis' Mike Conley, Charlotte's D.J. Augustin and San Antonio's George Hill -- in head-to-head matchups in Las Vegas.

Very interesting. Another real PG to add to the roster. Averaged 15/3/6 in the summer league and played well against some good competition.

Roster so far

B. Udrih
K. Martin
R. Artest
M. Moore
B. Miller
Q. Douby
F. Garcia
J. Salmons
J. Thompson
S. Hawes
S. Rahim
K. Thomas
B. Brown

I'm guessing Singletary and that's it?

What I don't get is why this signing right now, I'm not completely sure, but is Brown that highly wanted? Couldn't we have waited until moving Artest and then signing him? I dunno, no idea who this guy is. I just know now that the 5-6 players for Artest/Thomas trades are no longer possible...but we'll see.

Do we get New Edition and Whitney Houston in the process?

and if we count Singletary, we would have 1 more roster spot open right?

I have heard good things about this guy. He had a buzz last eyar coming out of Fullerton I believe. Never seen him play, but if the Kings gave him a guaranteed 2 year deal then he must be a player.

Guess this means Pat Ewing Jr. doesnt make the team.. ohhhh wellll

This signing can mean many different possibilities

1. reef retires and brown takes his roster spot
2. we have a trade almost completed were we have an extra roster spot free soon
3. we cut ewing jr. as another member mentioned
4. we buy out k9

who knows really except the master PETRIE all hail petrie !!!!!!!

we will have more insight soon one way or the other ......

Definitely surprising! - but I really like him

He seems to be a relatively well-rounded PG, and is quick

If Pat Ewing Jr. doesn't make the team, I'm going to continue to support the guy and expect he'll make it decently somewhere in the NBA eventually.

Could be another Petrie & team find. Great summer league stats and lots of other teams wanted him.

I have heard him compared to Bobby Jackson. Supposedly he is a very explosive PG. Hopefully he turns out to be a good pickup.

I watched him play in the summer league, he definetly has a pretty decent jumper. He has some range too, but didn't shoot all that well overall.

I really hope we get rid of Thomas and Artest...

About Bobby Brown... this kid is VERY impressive, at least what I saw in the summer league, I can't really recall his exact stats but this was the first time someone jumped out at me and I've never heard about the dude before. He was playing with the Hornets in the VSL and he shows promise, quick, good defender, kinda like a smaller Bobby Jackson with better D....

Hey guys, I'm from Germany. Last season, BB played for the current champion Alba Berlin as the starting PG. He did a great job as a rookie and improved a lot during the season in terms of leading the game and creating easy plays for his team mates. Also, his 3pt shot is not that bad. Altogether, you'll be happy with him, imo!

Yeah me too, I had one of the games on in the backround and I kept hearing the announcer call out, "Bobby Brown!", I was like who the **** is this Bobby Brown guy? and started to watch the game.

Good signing from you guys, I've seen Bobby Brown play a bit in college and I've always been rooting for him. Good to see him make the NBA because he deserves it. A little about Bobby Brown if you didn't know, he played on the Weschester squad in High School, I think that team had about 2-3 NBA players on it (Ariza is one of them and I forget the others). He's a good shooter and scorer but there were always questions if he was really a point guard or a very short shooting guard. Glad to see he is learning how to run a team.

It's their prerogative.
