Do the Kings resign Artest after this year? (if not traded)

Post#1 » by norcal07 » Mon Jul 28, 2008 1:10 am

If the Kings are willing to go through the full season of this coming year with Ron Artest and don't trade him; at the end of the year do we resign him? Pull a Sign and Trade? Or just cut him loose? I think for the future of the molding of this team the Kings need to cut him loose.

Well, obviously, the Kings made it known that Artest will not be re-signed after this upcoming season. So, we have two choices: We could let him walk and get cap relief due to his expiring contract or SnT Artest to another ball club. In the light of the current, there are trade rumors around Artest. I expect some action, when Petrie comes back from his vacation.

Or there is the slim to no chance option. If Artest plays a MONSTER season (like he average 22/7/4/2 with DPOY defense) and propel us into the playoffs. I could see him getting re-signed but that won't likely happen. But I wish though. :)

No. Though if we did I wouldn't mind that at all.

I think if Artest produces like last year or better and stays out of trouble off the court the Kings could resign him. Also I dont think the Kings resign him if we end up being one of the worst teams in the league next year. Odds are stacked against Artest being resigned, but its still possible.

Artest will not be here past this summer. Artest will not even want to be here if the Kings won't commit to him long term. It will put him in a very bad position from a financial standpoint and most likely cost him about 15-20 million over the course of his next multi-year contract if his Bird rights aren't traded to a team feeling that re-signing him long term is a legit option.

Once again, despite what a lot of people may think, I have no real problem with Ron Artest. I have a major problem keeping Ron Artest while the team is being built by Geoff Petrie. Petrie is building a team completely different than one Artest would fit on. Our chance to build around Artest came and went with the loss of Bonzi Wells. Obviously that was the best thing that could've happened long term but that Artest/Bonzi combo was where this team should have headed short term. The timing was perfect but it didn't happen so time to move on. Actually from that moment on we should have went a different direction.

HAHAHA! no. I would not like artest back, period. There is no way he would want to come back because of what we did to him, and we have the tools to replace him. We won't have to deal with this though, because we are going to trade him.
